Which SatNav would you recommend ?

I would'nt bother if i were you, i have one that i have tried on 3 or 4 different bikes/scoots...
it will shake it to death....

Prompted by a direct inquiry and interested to know if this is the case with my set-up, I have just conducted an hour-long on-the-road test.

Bike - 2009 Honda Silverwing 600
GPS - Garmin Zumo 660
Reservoir Cover - from MotorcycleLarry
GPS Mount - Motorcycle Wired Cradle supplied in the 660 'kit'
RAM Arm - The shortest, also supplied in the 'kit'
RAM Ball - 1", screw-in, purchased separately.

Roads Included in Test - Motorway, Fast Duel-Carriageway (some brand new - very smooth), Bruges Cobbled Streets, Local Roads, Belgian Concrete Pavé, Temporary Surfaces (at extensive road-works).

I rode all at maximum speed-limits at times. The limits range from 30 - 120 KPH.

If one accepts that any vehicle, especially a motorcycle, vibrates according to the road-surface and therefore setting the Vibration Scale on Zero for that point, I can say honestly that the Zumo 660 on the set-up I have does not vibrate.

My one reservation about having the GPS mounted there is that I found it too close for comfort, being used to having it mounted further away and centrally.
Having said that, because of the big screen, it was still easy to read.

Just a quick update, having tried out both the TomTom Urban Rider Europe and the Garmin Zumo 660, my money has gone on the Garmin.

I know it means cutting into the handle bar plastics but this is about the best positioned mount for me.

Get one with the lifetime free traffic on it, they divert you around any hold ups ahead of you, had it a few times, saved me hours af waiting Navman spirit 500 Mio here

I don't have a 12V power socket on my T-max and don't want the expense and trouble of getting one. Do I still have any choice of units that would work with their screen on and no external power? Traffic info would be nice to have but I guess this is even more unrealistic.

I'm sure that they all will run for a few hours without an electrical conection, depending on the size of the battery display etc.
What you could do I suppose, is connect a cigarette plug socket from under the seat to the battery with an in line fuse and use the satnav while your riding then charge it up when you stop for a tea /fag break or whatever. You can get a cheap cigarette socket off ebay for a couple of quid with the lead on it.
Traffic ? I've got no idea, but I think you have to have a powered antenna to run it, as that's how it works on my car tomtom.

G ( noggin ) have you had the centre cover off the bars yet? if not, you have to pull like mad upwards to remove it, the plastic snaps over the bars. I just bent up a lump of Ali plate
2mm thick for the inside shape, Ram mount/ball bolted through the lot plus four plastic snap fasteners around the outside edge to stop the ali from flapping..
