Just found this form the Hunt report from years ago:-

14.Conspicuity of the motorcycle is a critical factor in the multiple vehicle accidents, and accident involvement is significantly reduced by the use of motorcycle headlamps-on In daylight and the wearing of high visibility yellow, orange or bright red jackets.

I personally will not wear hi-vis clothing - now or in the future.

the poor man obviously hasn't a clue, if your reffering to the "france" pics tarquin, we all wore dayglo's because not only does the "hi vis" jacket speak for itself, when riding in poor road conditions, when riding in a group it helps to count riders so you know youve not left anyone behind, it reduces the time you have to take your eyes off the road, which does help on long tiring run outs.
But to the riders who know everything , and ride round the block on sunny days, yep I suppose dayglo's are useless, and you cant really pose, and look at yourself in the reflection of shop windows , which is what riding is all about, eh tarquin. tosser.gif

Do I look like a knob? ...probably...do I care .. no.

My sentiments entirely; you all can judge if you look at the Ugly Bunch picture from the Dunkirk Ride.
I'm the one/knob in the H-Belt.
Since I only ever see myself if I'm in a photo it is of no consequence to me. :D

Personally from the early 70's I had the Easy Rider and then Hells Angel attire.
In the 80's it was the man in Black Leathers and Helmet, or the Top Gun Look.
In the 90's it was sensible touring gear I chose to wear.
2000 saw me clothed in various creams and lotions for arthritis, maybe due to the apparel I chose to wear back in the 70's. Because of this I had 10 yrs off, but could not get riding out of my blood.
So now I have found a machine that I can ride for again without invoking too much pain, 2012 will see me wearing mainly warm, sensible, waterproof, and highly protective and visible clothing. I CHOOSE to wear this clothing from expierience and the fear factor of the"SORRY MATE, I DID NOT SEE YOU" brigade. However I will no doubt be tempted and probably will succumb to wearing my old Levi jacket and jeans in the summer months.
So its all about personal choice, LIFE AINT A FECKIN FASHION PARADE !!If you choose to wear a mankini and stilettos when you ride, that's your option and I will let you do it, So please don't berate me for mine. ;)
G.
Having had the exhilaration of riding a bike without a helmet abroad, and in this country (illegally) I resented being told to wear one, now after quite a few off's, I'm glad that law was bought in and wouldn't now ride without one.

I think we have satisfied Tarka's intent by this thread, Of putting the cat amongst the pigeons

As I've said here before if a cager can knock me off while riding a lemon yellow maxi scooter with twin dipped headlights on and a very bright orange Hi-viz jacket it matters not a jot what you wear if they ain't looking.

I choose not wear hi-viz nowadays (Assuming I ride again that is).
