It has been on about, er i think :? ...about 9,000 miles now,
I keep looking and checking it, as best you can on the Max, it looks in good condition as far as i can see.
Always had the nagging feeling that it would let go at some time, but it has not,
But just for my peace of mind the next one will be a Yamaha belt.
hello clive, don't suppose you can remember the name of the £30 ebay belt and does it have ribs on both sides

Hi Deeping,
I bought my V belt from Pattern-Parts.net, a Nottingham based company.....they still have the belts for sale (£25+ VAT)
And no it is not ribbed.....it looks just like the standard Yamaha V belt.

Clive.

I recently changed the belt and rollers. 18,000. The original belt had not worn 50% ( as listed in manual ).
But everyone knows that I am a boring old fart rider.

Okay, just so I am straight in my mind, the OEM belt for a tmax 2001 only has ribs on the inside – yes?

Now i understand!...yes the "cheapo" one i bought was ribbed on the inside of the belt, just like the original Yamaha one is.

That was quick, the problem I have is that I trust everyone, how naive am I.

I bought the tmax second hand last year and the guy told me he’d had a new belt fitted by his local garage, so, silly me presumed it would have been a Yamaha one. Not long ago the silly red light came on to tell me that the belt needed changing. Maybe the sender was not reset?
I took the cover off and measured the belt, it was well within spec and I did notice it had ribs both sides of the belt – so this lead me [wrongly I presume] that OEM tmax belts had ribs both sides.
So after what you have just confirmed – OEM tmax belts only have ribs on one side maybe I ought to think about changing it for the belt like the one from Nottingham.

Thanks for your help, sorry I hijacked this thread
