Hi all been rearly busy with the burger in the last month giving her a bit of a face lift and trying to sort out some of her problems. (pics to follow) but has any one ever had a fuel consumption problem I mean rearly bad one now iv done belt rollers and just had two new hoops fitted but I'm still only getting around 110 miles per tank and that is on a long run to Birmingham with speeds not in excess of 60 mph (honest I rearly wanted to keep a good mpg.) I just can't understand it. She has only done 20k miles and at 6 years old I should be getting 3 times better mpg. Any how she is looking very pritty at the mo so ill post some pics for ya all in the showroom later. :ugeek:

You should be getting around 180 miles at least from a tank. Have you tried working out your fuel consumption by brimming the tank, then again when filling up next?

Yep if I push it I get around 70 if I eco ride I can get 110 max, think I'm just gonna have to put her into the shop:(

Hi amsmtb,

Sounds a bit low, should be quite a bit more. At 6 years old its a spring chicken and at 20k is just getting run in!

Right...when was she last serviced (aside from the belt and rollers)? How is the bike performing? Plenty of power? I wonder if the belt and rollers are fitted correctly as that can stuff up the mpg's if not. If it is in desparate need of a service that could be it. But otherwise the most likely things you should check are the air filter is clean and fitted correctly, the spark plug is in good condition and gapped correctly, and you don't have a fuel leak at any of the pipe unions or on the tank. Brakes not binding (you always get some pad contact with the discs but this should only be light). In particular check the parking handbrake mechanism and cable to make sure it is working correctly and releasing fully. Try spinning the rear wheel on the centre stand after applying and releasing the parking brake a few times. If you haven't used any fuels system/injector cleaner in the bike, then now may be a good time to do it. This can make a big difference on bikes that have covered a few miles and never been cleaned out. It works! But follow the instructions on the bottle. Other things to consider might be that the clutch is worn and is slipping when you are riding at higher speeds. I've seen scoots that are used on shorter runs in urban areas that need a clutch at 16k but that's rare.

Has had a full service only 1500 miles ago. But injection cleaner is somthing iv not done. So may be a good thing too look at also I get a lot of cluch slippage at higher speeds so again it might be time to replace, I cover about 500 miles a week mostly motorway and a road so its always running at higher speeds than most. But I got her at 10k so ide bet even though the previous owner did a lot of services at the main dealer it Probley spent most of its life running around ipswich, hard on the cluch.
Iv got a bottle of redex out in the workshop so we will start there but I still think a new clutch is needed. I'm gonna have to get on eBay, I do most work myself and take it to the shop for the main big stuff and they stamp the book. Iv got a good shop in orwells just a bit costly. As for the brakes they are as they should be. But thanks for the advice ill post some pics later. And ill report back when iv tryed a few things.

Ps I'm gonna just take a look at the belt roller instal make Shaw all is as it should be.
