My point is that we really are a minority group. In 2011 there were less than 20k scooters of all types sold in the UK, versus 95k of other forms of PTW. And the biggest selling scooters were either chinese mopeds or Vespas.

Motorcycles in the UK just seem to mostly be portrayed as weekend warriors or courier machines, rather than a practical form of transport. Those on here know better, but it just seems that hardly anyone else does.

I find it rare to see another Maxi of any model or brand. They are such great bikes to have. Fast enough unless your an obsessive with a small D++k, Good handling if you ride them within their limits. Yet on any weekend thers loads of traditional Motor Bikes out there seen to be having fun. How often do you see a team of Maxis out together? If you were going to choose a "Gang" to be in which would you join? Could it be as has been suggested that Bikers ride for Fun whereas Scooters are ridden more for commuting and therefore at weekends theres no novelty in going out. Also there does seem to be an obsession with MPG that you don't often hear from Bikers. Fun isn't often costed out like that, you either want to ride and Bugger the cost or you don't.

YES bikers ride for fun, i didnt ride any of my bikes to work very often, but mainly because i wore a uniform,and it would get in a state,under my leathers,
so big bikes sat in shed all week ,and came out to play sat an sundays, its true i never bothered about mileage, but if you are caning 750,or 1200,s you wont go far on a gallon
its different with Vespa,i use here there and every were, so do sort of keep eye on fuel
and because its ridden most days the week end ride is not the same, plus all my ex riding mates have all got big bikes,they dont want to play with me lol

But the sad fact is that for part of the year they are not.
Unless you are the type of loony who enjoys the russian roulette of riding very slowly on snow and ice with a car right up your chuff.

I can sort of agree with that - I'm lucky enough to be able to keep my Burgman at work and use it mainly for pleasure at weekends in fair weather and on less congested roads! I've just recently been on a week long road trip with another Burgman owner and two sports bike riders to Monaco. It was more than suitable for that trip - much more so than the sports bikes were. With the CVT gears, good storage plus wind and weather protection us Burgman riders didn't suffer at all in the near 2000 miles we covered. I probably wouldn't enjoy it as much if I looked on it as my commuter scooter - there's more 'novelty value' with the occasional use. I use my SH300i for commuting as it is much more practical and nimbler, especially when filtering in heavy traffic.
