Why do you have the size scooter you have?

OK i have a Honda S-Wing which is a 125cc, i have this because i have only done my CBT and only commute on it around 16 miles a day through towns, i dont need anything bigger or faster (even though i keep looking and debating about doing my test to ride bigger and faster!!) and love the way it looks and rides.

I wondered why some people have huge engined scooters and is it what you need or just want, which isnt a bad thing

I know a lot of you already had the full licence from your motorbike days and some of them are back on 125's for whatever reason, so whats the reason for riding the size of pride and joy you're riding?

My current ride is 125cc Aprilia Atlantic. LIke yourself I'm still on a renewed CBT from first owning a 100cc Pug back in 2003. That was bought as a cheaper alternative to using the bus / train to get into work. Over the years the different bikes (X8's / XEvo / X9) have been used for 5 days a week commuting as well as trips to the coast / local attractions - more than capable to holding a good 55/60mph on the A-Roads . I've not felt the need to take a test. Mainly not had the time or inclination. Okay the CBT costs money every 2 years, but I pretty much know I'm gonna pass the CBT without fail.

250cc suits my current needs.

I think a 400, 500 is not really needed for city traffic but great if you also going to go on bigger rides.

A 250 is not too excessive for town riding and is also capable enough for short motorway trips.

It all depends on your use but for some people they just like the feel of a bit more power.

It's personal preference.

Riding a 500 round the city is annoying to me withall the start/stop.

I love the Aprilia Atlantic, i looked for a 125 one for almost a year before i gave up, the father in law has a 200cc Atlantic so i liked them from him. what sort of economy and speed do you get?
i'm the same as you regarding redoing the cbt thing, i dont need anymore and rarely take it out for a jolly of good distance so unless i can warrant taking the test i'll probably (until i change my mind again) stick to a 125

ive had two i25 scooters a a piaggio skipper and a piaggio x8, they did not have enough power to stay with traffic comfortable
without screwing the nuts of em,i now ride a 300cc which will stay at motorway speeds easy all day long,
i feel a lot more happy with the extra power power

I ride a 200 partly because I have a full motorcycle license but also because it has more than enough power for my commute to work.

I have a 250 as it's not much more expensive to run, insure etc than a 125 and it has far better performance,
at least for A-roads. I only have a 15mile commute and thats all I really use the scoot for as well as getting
some shopping. 400+ machines are not what I need daily and I would'nt really use one enough to have as a
second bike.

My little 125 I use to go shopping in town, for it's a lot more manouverable than a Maxi and it can carry three
decent sized bags of shopping.

Personally I would pass the test though. The instant I lost my L's other road users treated me better and the
insurance for my 250 was the same as my 125 i'd been using for the prior two years. Not just that the bike test
is getting more complicated, expensive and harder...

I have a 400 great for motorway journeys to work and great on the skeggy run. I do miss the tmax more power but does use more juice, same weight though.

I think if the test was a lot cheaper I wouldn't even think about not doing it. Not sure what size I'd go up to though as I want good fuel economy as well as a bit of power

Since giving away my last big bike to my nephew and taking a vacation from two wheels a while back, I've owned a Vino 50, a Chinese 150, an Elite 250 and my current Burger 400. The Vino was an experiment to find out if I could get into scoots. The Chinese 150 lasted for three seasons, was fine for my commute, but couldn't do the interstates. The Elite would have been fine but turned out to be too much of a project to get sorted right. I was looking for another 250 when I came across the Burger cheap and I fell in love. While a 250 would have been fine, the Burger has just enough power for long distance highway riding while still being cost-effective and just nimble enough to get me around town. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
