New Front Fender Mudflap...

Been getting tired of picking out the mud and debris from my rad on the Burgman 400. Also the mud that gets spattered around the front underside of the bike is off putting with mucho washing needed. So...investigated a fender extenda for the front of the Burgman 400 only to find, there isn't one! Suzi don't make one, no one else that I'm aware of makes a purpose fit extenda either. I appreciated many of you may well know that. But its surprised me as all my bikes in the past I have been able to just go and get one and fit it. Well, after doing the rounds of Ebay, Amazon and several specialist sights I decided to buy a cute little mudflap and make it fit. Hardly a major job but one that for me is important. I ended up going to Ebay and buying a universal plain black flap with a bracket to fix it with. It also had it's own screws. No holes came with it though, a major flaw I decided as I would have to drill my own!

The flap is both screwed into place and also bonded with a motor trade polymer sealant adhesive along the inside top of the flap to stop water and mud going down behind it. It also helps it to remain afixed very strongly.

Once and for all I've knocked the mud and debris thing on the head. It looks smart and is really protecting the front underside and radiator very well indeed. I hope too that it may give some protection to the back tyre from nails and screws being thrown up, as happened to me recently.

Just thought I post this in case anyone is having problems locating a good flap. The flap is suitable for mostly any scooter of any size I would think. Hope it helps.

That's a good find and it looks better than a solid plastic one.
I fitted a mudflap made from Poundland car mats to a Suzuki VanVan 125, they did the job.
You can also use a mouse mat.
Fuel consumption figures will now be reduced by 0.005% and top speed will suffer because of the increase drag, Suzuki do not recommend the fitting of non approved accessories, so your warranty may be invalid. The insurance company must be informed of course.

Good mod that, I too used a sealant on my mudflap to stop the muck going down behind.... great minds!

Meldrew, do you need to water it everyday? And what about weeding, do you do that on the go? I know you are 'mal-ajusted' but I'll make you laught one day! Seriously though, that's a good idea.

what a filthy - dirty bike, I think I can see 2 small dead flies in the rad, tut tut go clean it

Looks good - though with my DIY if I tried to drill holes in the existing mudguard, I'd be bound to drill a hole in the tyre as well!

Thanks for the kind words everyone...it was nothing!! Actually, it was. It's the first thing I've done on the bike for ages since the knee problem and I enjoyed doing it after being laid up for so long. Took ages though as I couldn't sit or squat properly due to the knee needing to be protected and kept out in a not too bent position.

Spendid Bornagain! You won't go far wrong unless you drill into your front tyre as Grumpy has suggested he might do if he were to fit one It should fit your front 650 guard really neatly.

Meldrew, how did you know? Actually, I had a very active day today. I've had physio, limped around my nieces house and fitted a new lock for her, and had my first drive of our car since I buggered up my knee. The drive of the car was just a short one with my wife at my side incase I couldn't sustain the pain from pushing the clutch down. But it went pretty well. I'm definitely not ready to start driving any distance though. I've also ridden the Burgman 20 miles or so in town and around for general errands, and with it's auto tranny that's easy compared to the car. So generally, the knee hurts like hell tonight as it's the most it's had to do for ages. The now almost non existant muscles in my left leg ache and throb too, and I thinking...very strong co-codamol as given me by the docs for just such occasions. Mmmm...lovely!

Rod, I leave those flies there as a warning to others!
