Never had a silverwing but had a Tmax, great fun and great performance. You should get one easy for £2k, there is a mk2 on ebay for £2290 if you can stretch that much

Re: Tmax mk 1 or Early Honda Silverwing?
TMax reliability problems??? Nah,...mostly bullet proof. Especially as mk1 and 2 were made in Japan.
It all depends of course. Silverwing does go well, but the suspension and handling on the TMax is far better. 'wing has more luggage space (2 helmets vs 1 helmet + space for extra bits). If you want M-way pace and luggage, the wing might be better, if you go round twisties or on badly surfaced roads, the Tmax is better suited. As for fuel consumption, the wing does seem to vary more than most with how you ride it. Meldrew says he can get over 60mpg riding gently, whilst people have got into the mid 30s thrashing it! Same applies to the TMax, but I only once ever got below 45 on a Tmax, and I have seen 60mpg (riding within speed limits).
On my ride of the wing, I really didn't like the riding position - it seemed very cramped, considering the size of the scoot. The TMax is much roomier, and allows a true feet forward stance.

Hi Drago,
I had the same dilema at the end of June after a trip to London: http://www.maxi-muppets.co.uk/forum/vie ... =5&t=11237
The Citycom 300i is actually 263cc - and it's physically a bigger Scooter - the 16" wheels certainly feel more 'stable' than the SYM 250cc GTS I had previously.
Have a glance at this vid, and do bear in mind it was propelling 17½ Stone! Hopefully it might help you see any speed difference between the two engines...
85mph (indicated!) @8000 rpm averaging 80mpg... Food for thought!

If you want to be incrementally better: Be competitive. If you want to be exponentially better: Be cooperative.

Ah but I rode the Silverwing round Darlington, which has by far the worst roads I've ever come across....you could feel the suspension being tied in knots! There again, the big Burger wouldn't have been a happy bunny on those roads either!Meldrew wrote:
As for the handling you also said if you go round twisties or on badly surfaced the TMax is better suited, well I live in a part of Cumbria with plenty of both and until you mentioned it I'd never given a thought to how the Silver Wing handles. I remember posting a few months ago from Germany about how impressive the SW was riding the popular Kyffhäuser bikers road. I've rode Hardknott and Wrynose Passes both ways since then and it was no trouble at all.

Re: Tmax mk 1 or Early Honda Silverwing?
Well for the last few years I've owned a Maxi from 2008, my current GTS I've only really used it for my
15m (7.5m each way) a day commute. Which is on a busy-ish A road where the typical traffic speed
is 50mph. My GTS will happily sit at (indicated) 50mph @ 4750-5250rpm. Whilst it'll do (indicated)
60mph at 5500rpm-6000rpm depending on the wind and if i'm on a hill/flat spot.
Well this year I've decided to get out a bit more and have so far travelled a few times up the A303, M5
and A380. These roads contain plenty of hills, spots exposed to wind and the surfaces aren't the best
quality. As mentioned my GTS will happily sit at 60mph and it'll do 70mph if the winds not blowing against
me and I ain't going up a hill. But then to do 70mph and to accelerate from 60mph requires near wide/actual
wide open throttle. It took me a few minutes to pass three cars on the A303 at WOT/80mph/7800rpm.
Problem is the GTS's 250 motor is SYM's first Maxi engine (discounting the 171cc joyride motor) and it redlines at 8000rpm, whilst I believe the Piaggio Quasar? is a little higher. I'm put off the big wheeled scooters by there lack of storage, though I was tempted by the Citycom I decided against it.
But I'm thinking of travelling to destinations further up the country. I'm more interested on the Silvering for it
does have bigger storage over the T-max. Plus It seems by looking at owner reviews that the Silverwing is much
more reliable than the T-max. Both get the similiar mpg, but I don't mind to much as I'm only going to be doing a
few thousand miles a year max on one. The GTS i'd keep for commuting/A road only journeys.

Re: Tmax mk 1 or Early Honda Silverwing?
Why put 'test ride' in inverted commas???? It was at an event organised by Honda giving people an opportunity to ride lots of the Honda range...I didn't try the Gold Wing, though I did the Silverwing and Deauville. Whilst I know the Tmax very well, I have at least ridden the Silverwing, and can thus make some comparison, unlike some people. However, as I make clear when I say it was a test ride, I haven't ridden one extensively or owned one. Sorry for trying to help and not pretending to have knowledge I don't have.Meldrew wrote: You inevitably bring up this "test ride" on every topic about the Silver Wing.
