Blez's review of the bike show is quite entertaining as it talks about all the scooters and ignores most of the bikes that the mainstream media have been going on about!
Good! He's a scooter guy really...and fairly sensible too!

I know him well and can assure you that last statement does not apply... mad as bucket of frogs, he is. Rode a poor Honda Helix to the top of Butser Hill, he did...

Except a closed door, which a mind can't open, but even a stupid hand can.

That's odd. They could at least import a couple in London. There surely must be someone that would pay a bit extra for a safety feature. And it would be nice to cater for those very few scooter fans too.

Greedy bastards.

Yes..this is the UK we're talking about! Since here the BMW C600 is only £500 more with more grunt, ABS and other toys, Yamaha must be beginning to get worried! Though I guess even they'll not dare price the TMax ABS higher than the C600!

One significant difference between the TMAX ABS and the BMWs is their weight.

The Yamaha is quoted with fuel at 221kg. The BMW C650GT on the same basis is 261kg and the C600 is 249kg. So the BMWs are somewhat heavier than the TMAX.

Just to show how lardy these BMWs are, their own R1200RT touring bike weighs in at 259kg. I've owned two RTs in the past and was really surprised to see that their scooters are around the same weight, with the C650GT actually slightly heavier.

I agree it's very odd that Yamaha do not appear at present to be selling the ABS version here.

There is a weight difference but in the greater scheme of things it makes absolutely no difference whatsoever.
Both have enough performance for their intended use.

Regarding weight, I wasn't thinking of this in terms of performance and I agree it makes no difference, but more the ease of manhandling and pushing the bikes when you have to, such as in and out of garages and parking in restricted spaces etc. The heavier they are, the more difficult this becomes. One of the reasons I gave up on Harleys which I owned until earlier this year is that with my advancing age, I found it increasingly difficult to handle their vast weight. Not on the go but in the sort of situations above when you need to move them around.

If weight for manhandling is an issue, get a 300 rather than a TGS or Tmax...?

Well let's hope they do bring some in. Tis a pity they are that worried about bringing in stock and not being able to sell them. I was wondering if they could bring them into to order?

Enough????? I don't understand this concept of 'enough' performance! You never have 'enough' performance, you always want more!! I bet even BMW S1000RR owners want more grunt. OK maybe I was a sportsbiker in a previous life.....
