So how did the big Burger do?

Hi Grumpy, yes you are right, the fuel injection system or carbs deliver a slightly different mixture in cold winter conditions, and of course the engine takes longer to warm up so using more petrol. FI copes better than carbs. But there is slightly less power in a gallon of winter petrol and when coupled with different burning characteristics it contributes to a further drop in economy. Blinking nuisance but better to have a smoother starting and smoother running engine I guess than would otherwise be. I have a diesel engined car and that too is on winter diesel which drops economy by around 5% on it's own, but couple that with the extra use of lights, air con, heated mirrors etc and it is quite noticeable. If they carried out the tests on those scoots over the whole year it is not a far comparison at all and while worth noting the results, we shouldn't take too much notice of them in my honest opinion.

So how did the big Burger do?

Dunno - they didn't test it (oddly, since it was part of the maxi test in the same issue, but there again, the test was of the C600 rather than the C650). However, they did have a figure for the Burger 400 - 67mpg

If they carried out the tests on those scoots over the whole year it is not a far comparison at all and while worth noting the results, we shouldn't take too much notice of them in my honest opinion.

Oh yes....but they are kind of interesting - eg the difference between the N700X and the Integra. But as we've said, individual riding styles will make a massive difference anyway.
