10 Best Motorcycles for Women...

Post by anonstarter »

Would you Adam & Eve it! The Suzuki Burgman 400 is listed as one of the top 10 best Motorcycles for women - and the vertically challenged!

Visordown wrote: One in 10 motorcyclists is female, but the range of motorcycles out there doesn’t tend to cater for the average female rider that well. We’re talking seat height. Most men don’t worry about how tall a motorcycle’s seat is, but our female readers say it’s often the first thing they want to find out when they see a motorcycle they like.

Suzuki Burgman 400; Seat Height: 710mm; Weight: 222kg

So it’s not technically a motorcycle, it’s a scooter – but give it a chance. For those who want two wheels to get around, a maxi-scooter like the Burgman is a great option. Its 710mm seat is incredibly low, although slightly wider than you’ll find on a motorcycle. You can fit a large rucksack’s worth of kit under the seat and being a scooter, it’s automatic, so you can glide everywhere effortlessly. The newer 400Z comes with ABS as standard.

Haha! Eyebrows shot up at this one! Being female it is a pet hate to be told what I want and a fav pastime to make sure it's NOT what the 'expert' - (read, nearest bloke) reckons!! Haha whenever hubby tells me what I want I bloody make sure it's the opposite :-)

Tried a Burgman 400, loved the fit of the bike except it was a little low for me. My Aprilia Atlantic 500 is about right.

Problem is that these articles expect women to be in the 5'1" to 5'5 range, many of us are either shorter or taller than that range & we're all sorts of shapes.

Never keen on riding a bike that a man wants me to ride (advises that it would be a good choice), I'm perfecty capable of making my own decisions, & my own mistakes if necessary.

I guess that I don't mind lists like this as long as they are the place to start investigations and not the only resource. You have to start somewhere. But if you're serious, you also have to visit a lot of shops, sit on a lot of machines, think outside the 'expert's' box, and make up your own mind. It's true for the guys and it's true for the gals.

There again, apart from possibly wanting a low seat height, why are women supposed to want different bikes to men??? Are they supposed to like ones in pink or something?? I guess that they aren't 'supposed' to be strong enough to handle a heavy thing like a big Harley or a Goldwing, but the weight of those terrifies me as well!!!!!

as long as you are confident on it,it doesn't mater what bike scooter you have ..you do see a lot of people who ride bikes that struggle to maneuver them when at standstill.thats when you notice the problems..
