Nice scoot. I have the 'old' SYM GTS 250i mines five years old and still going strong.

The Joymax is officially a UK model and AFAIK the GTS300 Evo also only had a kph speedo as do most (all?) new Syms, Kymcos, Piaggios and Vespas.

Oops. I last checked the SYM site a few days ago, they've updated it now. Looking closer I can see mph also on the speedo.
SYM always have kmh in bold, mph small. I at first thought this was a kmh onlyspeedo (which isn't legal here? - Foreign market kmh countries).

I also thought it was going to be called the GTS here. I've been looking on youtube and it seems to vary across Europe between GTS & joymax. The previous models were pretty much all called GTS in Europe.

Also the SYM UK site in true SYM UK style is wrong - it's got the 'new' Joymax/GTS pics, yet has the main photo of the prior GTS evo and the GTS evo specs! Wtf is wrong with SYM UK, so imcompetent it's unbelievable! (remember them posting a KYMCO downtown pic once!!!!)

Yep that Sym UK website is pretty bad.
Sems like the new model has had a price hike over the previous one, wonder if there will be old model cut price clearance bargains to be had...?

Guys

Thanks for the warm welcome and info.

gm2 - yes I see what you mean, that is the speedo sensor and does not imply ABS.
drago - you are right, the speedo is both Kph and Mph - I should have said the odometer is KM only - I'll just have to do the mental arithmetic.

It was £4,299 including otr but in fact it was a 'price to change' which I was very happy with so no qualms there.

I'll report back on how it shapes up.

With led running lights, fog lights and twin headlights it should certainly be visible. Hope the generator is up to it.

Welcome Chris.

Some people with Klm main speedos have put small stickers on the "glass" to show the 30/50/70 mph levels, which might be worth looking at if it bothers you enough.

Not sure with Sym but the majority of other manufacturers where the electronic readouts is Klms (Odo) can be switched to Miles, usually by a combination of button pressing, maybe worth an email/call with Sym UK?

Contacting SYM UK is pointless. The importer has a reputation for ignoring emails. Thats the problem with
SYM, the dealers that sale them generally want to sale them. But the importer couldn't relly give a damn if
they sale or not. Ignores Questions, website is outdated or just plain wrong. ie GTS evo details at the mo for
the new joymax. Or when they first added the Maxsym, they had a picture of a KYMCO downtown! As Meldrew
mentioned a guy called SYM UK came on to answer Questions. He posted next to nothing and never came back!

I'm starting to lose interest in SYM, bad importer, prices are shooting up. SYM used to good value compared to
the italian/japanese stuff. But now there prices are being matched, beaten or so close it's better to buy the jap equivalant. Personally now i'd only reccomend SYM Maxi's. There 'normal' scooters are no longer good value compared
to the jap stuff. Only if SYM increase the service intervals and include fuel injection will they be worth buying.

Examples
SYM Tonik 110cc £1699. Honda vision 110 - £1800 - has bigger wheels, fuel injection and longer service intervals.
SYM Symba 101cc £1999. Honda Wave 110 - £1800 - Ally wheels, disc brake, fuel injection and longer service intervals.

Similarly there's not much pricewise between the Sym Joymax and the Yamaha Xmax or between the Maxsym and the X10.
Unless Sym drop their prices I can't see their dismal sales figures showing any sign of improvement.

I did have a long look at many maxis - Pug X10, Yam X/Y Max, Kymco 300 , Burg and so on and the Sym did come out on top for me, in particular it was the right size. It is a risk I know, the 3 year warranty wont be worth much if they disappear without trace.

My ideal machine would be the Joymax made by Yamaha - that would be a great scoot.

I do my own mechanics though so once I have found a service manual I'll start stripping it down to see what lies beneath and not rely much on the dealers.

For now, while the sun shines....
