Tyres - Rear Citygrip

I've finally fitted a rear 140/70-16 Michelin Citygrip tyre to the Citycom 300i.
After (a mere) 8700 miles on the original Maxxis - which were kinda getting close to the wear marks - I'd had a couple of 'twitches' on a mini roundabout and thought now's the time!

I find Oponeo http://www.oponeo.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; are the best value place to buy tyres and the 140/70-16 Citygrip was £54 including delivery & VAT.
However my frame-of-mind has been to accept paying a little more to use (and keep) local services. So I popped along to Anton Parris in Tuckingmill. http://www.antonparris.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They quoted £65 for the tyre and around an hour to change it. So I paid my deposit and the next day it was there.

It's quite a kerfuffle getting the rear wheel off, and the Mec' had to dismantle the exhaust, mudguard, suspension etc to get to the tyre.
Sadly I must of looked like a business owner because I didn't hear the "PLUS VAT" bit at the end of the quote. (Although I have to admit I'm often accused of not listening!)
So the total was £120.

After an 11 mile commute I noticed there is an obvious difference - the rear of the Scoot - between the inner and outer mudguard - is absolutely soaked.



The weather today is the same as yesterday, sunny with showers. I can only guess that the Citygrip tread pattern is flicking the rainwater & road dirt in areas previously 'untouched' by the Maxxis.

Has anyone else noticed this?

'prolly the same with any tyre... irrespective of tread pattern...
A near bald tyre isn't gonna catch and throw up anywhere near as much water from a nearly non existant tread...
So the new tyres are obviously clearing water...

I have Mich Gity Grips on the XMax, and always try to take in loose wheels, usually to Watlings, occasionaly to Sidcup Motorcycle Tyres...

Big lesson for next time, always agree a fully fitted price up-front.

I didn't notice any change in the splash pattern on my Burgman when I fitted a new City Grip rear. I did notice one hell of an increase in response in the corners, though.

Must admit I wasn't that impressed with the City Grips on my baby Burgman...but I recently had a new one on the front and it makes one helluva difference (and the old one was even totally worn out).

Thats a definite.
I was a bit surprised really, as I'd used them for quite a few years. I never took Vespas or lambrettas to them but I have had at least 4 tyres, and most mots since I started with autos in 2002. And a scorpion exhaust for a runner I had, come to think of it.

Not that I hold a grudge but I go elsewhere now
