Re: Question - can a scoot save my sanity?
X10 without question. It will cruise on motorway at 80mph and a bit left over for overtaking. It is the most stylish scooter on the market. It is comfortable at speed and weaving through traffic. Also the 350 has ABS Traction Control and an ECO mode. If you look on ebay there are some great second hand ones with low mileage. Good luck and welcome.

Re: Question - can a scoot save my sanity?
had 115 out my tmax tee hee on private rd officer, it handles like a dream, and if you have come from fast bikes, it still has the looks n sporty feel so its a nice transition, there is scope for customising if that floats your boat and tuning, its just a nicer package and quality feel all round for me, my favourite bit is the handling, like shit on a blanket, so confidence inspiring over any other bike I have owned, and my best experience was when I first got it, had the piss taken relentlessly from my mates for buying a scooter, had the old "we will stop n have a ciggy while you catch up" speeches or "can we put out sarnies under your seat" that changed the day I was on the moffat road on the way from st marys loch to Dumfries, they on every sportbike under the sun, me on my new tmax with then, no modifications or tuning, utterly obliterated the lot of them on the twistys and it was me at least a mile ahead at the other end, sittin on a wall with my lid off asking "what kept ya lads" the faces were priceless, I was smitten and in the few years I had it, 3.5k spent on mods n customising, I changed many a bikers mind at the biker meets with its capabilities, sold it in 2011 and wished I hadn't even though I have had some lovely new bikes since, the tmax was the one out of the 14 bikes I have owned I kept the longest and had the best memories of, if I get another job hopefully, that's the first thing I am saving up for! here is mine, it was lovely!

Yes is the short answer, I am not from London so I speak as an outsider looking in and to be fair I have only used the underground for leisure but it must be the worst way to travel known to man

Things just seem to be more fun on a T-max, and you might need a bit of fun on the way home from work.

Re: Question - can a scoot save my sanity?
I spend way too much time reading about scoots and looking at the trader ads and just need to try some (I need to replace all my gear before I can test ride anything though!).
This this a proper head or heart decision!
There is a lot of fans of the TMax here and its easy to see why, its the way the heart would jump....
but .....
Mr Sensible telling my head that make more sense....
Its like having the good and bad fairy whispering in each ear !
The money is arriving in the January pay pack and the excitement is building, one way or another I intend to be riding something soon!
I'm sure I read somewhere that it is easy to scrape the the MaxSym in the bends if your not careful, has anyone had this???

these look nice too and gn2's right, nearly new instead of 5 or 6 years old with 20k on the clock! and ABS on there too...gn2 wrote:Maxsym 400?
You should be able to pick up a nearly new one circa three grand.

Re: Question - can a scoot save my sanity?
Hi MattJH and welcome!
Re: Question - can a scoot save my sanity?
Short answer - No! If you read the many posts on here you'll soon realise that some maxi-muppet members lost their sanity a long time ago, and others put the fun in dysfunctional.
However, if it is too late to save your sanity - you'll be in good company.
There are many great recommendations already on this thread so to confuse you further I thought I throw this into the soup of decision!
Maxi-Scoots can be the easiest, cheapest, most convenient and most 'exciting' way to get from A to B. They generally offer better weather protection, a more relaxed riding position and better storage space. There's also the convenience of the automatic CVT - no gears or clutch - just twist and go. There's also less chance of you picking up the lurgy from fellow coughing and sneezing commuters. The flip side is that there's a higher chance of being hurt if you're involved in a RTC, so you'll need good kit.
If you're uber competitive then get the fastest production Scoot available - the Aprilia SRV850cc - but you'll need to stretch your budget to £5k! (44+MPG & 100+MPH)
If you're the competitive sort that loves to fettle and needs to be the first away from the lights then Tmax is the wee beasty for you. A lean, mean overtaking machine. (56+MPG 100+ MPH)
If you're still trying to convince your head and your heart that you're 'sensible', then the Burgman or Maxsym 400 is maybe the best of both worlds. Not quite as quick but nor as thirsty - and you won't be wondering why you spend so much on brake pads!
(70+MPG & 90+ MPH)
£3-£4k gives you a lot of choice in the second hand market, but don't forget nothing is set in stone. You could start off spending less, earning brownie points in the 'sensible' stakes (and losing less if it's not your cup of tea) and buying something else!
Here is a great website to see how you might 'fit' on the most popular motorbikes and Scoots: http://cycle-ergo.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Fuelly is a great place to compare MPG's - but remember to change units to "UK" up in the top left: http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Having done a quick search on Biketrader I came up with these in your 'area':
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used ... pe/scooter" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There is a £2,299 2010 400cc SUZUKI AN BURGMAN that's done 28895 miles pretty close to you that you might be able to haggle down to £2,000?
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... ?logcode=p" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There's also a practically new 2012 MAXSYM 400i for £3195 that's only done 70 miles!
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... ?logcode=p" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Both these bikes have fab reputations and ideally you gotta test ride both!
Happy hunting!
P.S. In MY experience on this forum 400cc riders are the most balanced individuals!

If you want to be incrementally better: Be competitive. If you want to be exponentially better: Be cooperative.
