I used to have an X9 and the electrics on that were a nightmare, piaggio didn't give a dam of course.
I ride a TMax xp500 but in my old age I'm finding it too heavy, added to the fact that it has a serious petrol addiction , it's too expensive to run. I was Hoping that the X10 was the answer, having second thoughts now.
My Mod life crisis demands something stylish, must be good at travelling 34 miles per day through Central London and be cost efficient .
If anybody can recommend anything that might fit the bill; it would be appreciated.
Plenty of Nc700 dcts going cheap if that's your thing. Or maybe an integra.

Small storage space and chain and minimal weather protection but 8000 mile service intervals, good on fuel, plenty of poke and reliable so good commuters.

Piaggio seem to have problems making decent electrics. My Xevos engine has been rock solid in 27k miles in all weathers but the little things like unreliable immobiliser aerials and iffy indicator switches are annoying. These are cheap to fix but inconvenient.

I've been keeping up with X10 news for a few months, had a long chat to BMG Scooters at the MCN show about supply issues etc., and while the future is not guaranteed they brought in a chap from Audi to manage the move to a new system which IIRC is to be warehoused in Bristol. So future parts supply may be crap or it may not - I don't know, but it gave me hope. Europe has a very good supply too if we need alternates.

You can get the technical manual from eBay for a few quid which is very detailed. The first forum must-do mod recommended for it is to shield the (drain) hole in the base of the fusebox at the tail, as salt spray from winter roads doesn't do it any good. Italians and electrics are never a good mix but with the manual, internet, a nearby dealer and some ACF-50 spray I hope to head problems off before they arise.

The front of my SYM Joyride has connections behind the front grill going green too (and the odd electrical funny (warning lights throbbing with engine speed!) before I soaked everything in ACF50) as there is no shield under the headlight/wiring area, I've ACF'd that but it's not as good as covering them up - my SYM GTS300 electrics are covered and still look new.

With the X10 performance, economy, big service intervals, range, features, storage (100litres with factory topbox), 15" front wheel, ABS, comfort, space, popularity etc I decided to order a new X10, I'll pick it up when convenient in March or April for the new 2014 plate. So for me it's worth taking the gamble, remember that most people run them without problems in roads that are not covered in wet salt solution... plus I want to see if they are as good as people say :)

Good stuff!!
I'd oil and cover that fusebox though, I'll do mine when it arrives, before even the initial 20 miles/20 minutes run-in and oil change.

The X10 ticks all the boxes, 100 litres of storage space (got a deal on the topbox), proper oil filter, decent clutch, ABS, proper dashboard info (trips, temperature, mpg etc), 15" front wheel, power, economy, 250mile range, comfort, spacious.

I found the correct and detailed technical manual for a few pounds and the oil filters are very available too, air filter is washable (get some filter oil for after) and I have a dealer just up the road.

Yes, very high quality stuff.
Not quite as good value as the one on my GTS300 though, which was £20 from amazon for about 45litres and has been faultless, but for the Piaggio I wanted the paint to match ;)

Looking forward to see if those side deflectors do anything. In strong spray on the Joyride you get a cold bum, and on the GTS I wish I had some side deflection for the legs although it is better. Some scooters seem to be designed to let the spray whip round though - I think it was a Honda I looked at and wondered at the logic behind it.

BTW where did you fit the heated grip controller, and does the Givi screen protect your hands?

I find that with heated grips wind protection is irrelevant . Your hands are like toast ....I have to turn it down. I saw a very ugly fitting on the handle bars the other day, but mine is almost unnoticeable on the bulkhead, expertly fitted by my dealer free as part of my dealer Motech.
One day I was in the worst storm ever absolute monsoon gloves were drenched. Watched a footy match and had to put the dripping wet cold gloves back on for the 20 minute ride home. Within 2/3 minutes hands were as warm as toast!
