I've got a cheap bead seat cover, keeps my arse from numbing up and maintains a bit of airflow around the nads.

Split it into chunks.
If you were going to ride 250 miles in the uk on a sunny afternoon, what would you need?
Now take that with you because you have another nine trips you'll need it for.

That's a really good way to look at it, less daunting and a practical view.gn2 wrote:Split it into chunks.

dont forget the breakdown insurance.. you prob have with your insurance.. maybe
but could be just for uk and health insurance if abroad and dont forget your national health card... if you taking a phone put the letters ICE before your important contacts name.. so emergency people know they are the ones to call (ICE stands for In Case Emergency) just being prepared dont mean owt by it
I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

Meldrew wrote:Care to mention where this 2500 mile long distance run is to? I've done a few long trips where you clock up hundreds of miles just riding to and from a ferry port. For example I covered over 3000 miles on a 250 MZ to attend a rally in Hungary, but 800 miles of that were riding to and from Cumbria to Harwich for the ferries.
MZ, Hungary...hmmm... I am home sick now
Are we there yet?

Thanks Guys.
The idea of thinking about it in smaller, manageable chunks is a really good idea.
I'm a bit of a bridge fiend and will travel miles to see a good one! I'm thinking of riding up to Malmo, going over the Great Belt and Oresund crossings.....too much Scandi drama for me I'm afraid!!
Once in Malmo, I wanted to head up the coast to the Svinesund Bridge, between Sweden and Norway and then come back through Rotterdam and the Erasmusbrug.
Have good weeks everyone and thanks for your advice.

A couple of points on this: great idea though it is, ICE won't stand for In Case Emergency in countries that don't speak English so it probably won't be recognised there. Perhaps better to put the relationship in brackets e.g. (Wife) or (Father) or (Son). I know they're in English too, but are more likely to be recognised and acted upon.michaelphillips wrote:. if you taking a phone put the letters ICE before your important contacts name.. so emergency people know they are the ones to call (ICE stands for In Case Emergency)
But if you are relying on them using your phone, either by doing ICE or identifying your main contacts as above, make sure you don't have a secret unlock pass code on the phone, otherwise you'll be wasting your time as nobody will be able to unlock your phone to view your contacts anyway.
Of course, in the much more likely event that you somehow become separated from your phone, anyone would then have access to your email and other accounts. So I'd suggest keeping the phone protected and having a couple of cards with emergency contact details, one in your wallet or jacket pocket and one on the bike - maybe under the seat or in glove box. Or put a sticker on your helmet. Put your blood group and any allergies too.
