How do people do on there MPG figers, I brought a bike with not so full tank, its a 15lt tank, and so far on this tank with no fill up i have covered this:



I think it must be runing ok if i am getting this milage on a 15lt tank on a heavy 125 ? i am loving it anyways, means i can do longer rides with no stopping, thats the only down side to the Piaggio X8 was the small petrol tank it ment more stopping, it was only 12 lt tank but makes a diffrence to 15 lts by just 3lts.

The only way to measure mpg is to fill the tank to the brim, zero the trip meter, ride it till nearly empty, fill it back to the brim, record the miles travelled and zero the trip and repeat.... and repeat....

When I get a new bike, I don't know how much fuel is in the tank.
One of my first things is to fill up. This first filling does not enter into further calculations.
After subsequent fillings I can calculate mileage.
But I take this first calculations with caution.
After a whole year, with summer and winter and several thousand kilometres, I have a reliable (but still personal) average.

There is an Android app called Carango which seems to work quite well at recording your running costs and working out MPG.

Fill to 'Auto Shut Off' of the pump (i do not brim it...) - so you can just top-up... Zero your Trip...
Ride it as much as possible till reserve or nearly empty...
Re-fill, again to auto shut off - and do the maths miles you did for teh amount of fuel you put back in!
Try and use the same pump at the same petrol station...
The more times you do it an better average mpg you can accertain...

If you filled it now and got 14 litres in, assuming it was correctly zeroed when last filled, that'd be 77 mpg so pretty average really. (If only 13 ltrs then 83mpg)

You need to check the odometer is accurate and as said by others ignore this tank, refill and zero trip then check on the next tankfull.

But are we sure that the reading is in miles or km???
237 miles in one helluva range for any PTW!

As per picture at top the dash shows the MI sign at the end wich mean milles, so its def in miles.

Ill till it up today ( mate filling me uo ) to the pump shut off and see what millage is at empty

72 mpg is not unreasonable on a 125 ridden without thrashing it to death.

I've got the Aprilia SR Max 125, similar engine and weight to the X9 but the motor is fuel injected, I'm getting 20 miles to the litre from mine. The fuel tank is the same size at 15 litres. the reserve light comes on towards the end of my sixth day of commuting around the 240 mile mark (round trip of 40 miles to work) but admittedly the majority of my journey is on fast A roads and do tend to give it the beans when possible. The mean MPG reading on the readout is around the 85 MPG mark. The fuel economy on the SR is better than what I was getting from my XEvo which i reckon on being around the 75 MPG mark.
