I am a competent and experienced motorist and motorcylist with full licence but I cannot legislate for the idiots with no regard or respect for the safety of others.

But on a bike you are more likely to be aware of them and avoid them in the first place.

But then you only have to consider that 73.7% of motorcycle accidents occur in urban or suburban areas. Much safer to be on a motorway.

Yep, i went for a ride out and oil light came on at every stop, reason, crack in oil filter, spent today fitting new oil filter and new oil, and last owner left the wheel nut lose so had a to sort that out, and replaced brand new brakes.

Dam thinking of going next week, get big pay from work next week so ill use that to pay for a room in london and stop the night.

Not sure what day(s) you're looking at but if you ride down on Sunday here's a Travelodge right at the bottom of the A1 that has a room for £42.

May sound pricey but it is London and you're not booking far enough in advance for the best rates. Certainly worth doing some more digging, I just wanted to start off the idea and this location would work well for you.

Ferrit you would expect the geatest percentage of accidents to occur in suburban and urban areas because these make up most of motorcycle use. Not sure what the percentage is between bikes above and below 125cc but lots of L plates on road.

Statistics on road safety are also about miles travelled by car which is why the motorways are safer

Not when you are using "motorcycle only" statistics

No side turnings, no pedestrians, cyclists or horses, huge wide surface with visibility massively better than other roads and easy and safe places for overtaking is why motorways are safer. You may not feel safer but you are and it's just a confidence thing.

I went from London to Bath in the pissing rain at night with the mrs on the back a few years ago. Was it dangerous or nerve wracking or uncomfortable? No because I rode sensibly and wore the proper gear both me and 'er indoors had a nice journey, enjoying the views and experience. It really sounds like you just don't enjoy riding which is fine but it doesn't mean everyone is the same. One mans hell is another mans adventure.

This is more so about picking an appropriate vehicle for the journey. Most sane rational people would opt for a car over a 125cc scooter if travelling from leeds and similarly travelling from bath to london in the rain in the dark with a pillion is definitely on my "high risk" list and the experience would have been much dryer and more comfortable in a car.

Crossing london at 8am in the morning I would pick a bike every time because car is slow and stressful. Similarly if I know I am using a congested route I will pick the bike.

It is about picking the right vehicle for the right situation. I am fortunate to have access to four vehicles because I have never got around to consolidating and I like my toys. Therefore I can elect for tank like safety in a volvo xc90 or no safety on a bike. The bike might be fun but the xc90 hard to beat for comfort or safety.
