Hi advice for a possible owner

The chap that bought my Citycom 300i is a Harley rider. He'd suggested he was experimenting with the idea of commuting and didn't want to ruin his pride and joy.
He said he'd never ridden a Scoot before - and I could tell - he'd skidded at the first junction after pulling the rear brake thinking it was a clutch! He did phone me a few hours later after getting home, stating that it was the best thing he ever did. He said he was amazed by the handling, how quick it was and how easy and relaxing it was to ride. He was also amazed to see he was doing 85mph without being windswept and that his perception of speed had to be tweaked before he got a speeding ticket!

The Burgman 400 is more than capable of entertaining a Harley rider!

Come on, most Harley owners subscribe to this 'Loud pipes save lives' bollocks and annoy everyone within earshot with their selfish obsession for fitting the loudest exhausts they can afford. At any bikers café or meeting I've noticed they can't just get on their bikes and ride away like any normal rider, they have to start up leave the engine running for five minutes, or repeatedly blip the throttle, either to draw attention to themselves or to piss everyone else off.

I was in Arizona last year and seen and heard dozens of HD's, I can't remember any of them being as loud and annoying as some of the ones I've heard here in Yorkshire. None of the US riders dressed in any of this 'urban camo' gear favoured by UK Harley owners either, what's all that about?

Ahhh, you missed my point bud, what I was referring to was the rhythmic pulsing NOT the volume, I agree 'Loud pipes save lives' is total bollocks the vast majority of sound happens after the vehicle has passed. As for 'urban camo' clothing I presume it is thought by the wearers to be cool

Noise is good to keep the dozy car drivers aware. Yep noise saves lives.

The harley has been a great bike but they are too expensive to leave it anywhere.
I want something that will suvive the weather be practical and easy to service with resonable cost to parts,

It's going to be a burgman but not sure which one. Guys at work with the 400's rate them but they have gone from 250,s not 1600cc

Or a Silver Wing, they are nice & quite with the standard silencer fitted

Not too much power in a noddy bike for two up motorway work though But if you would be happy with one of those you might like it better with some weather protection




Or maybe the bike that they were trying to compete with the equally as quite Leader
