master cylinder removal

Post by andyscooter »

anyone else had to do it

went to change the brake pads on the burger but the caliper was stuck so had to take it off

sorted that and went to refill the brake lines but noticed the one screw in the mc had been rounded off to the point I couldn't get into it
so I had to try drilling it

the screw head came off but left the tread below the top of the reservoir

anyway had to order a second hand one off ebay

so any tips for getting the old one off

andy if you mean you have ordered another master cylinder , then you need to bleed the caliper just until you cant see any more in the master cylinder, clamp the pipe 2" just below the cylinder union bolt so you can then undo it, (use rags around for any spillage) swap over the master cylinder and refit union bolt ensuring washer in place, hopefully then when you bleed and putting new fluid in from the top the piston will be strong enough to push the new fluid thru... i always back bleed though as this means you know there is no air in the system, using a 100 mm syringe with 6" bleeding tube attached to the syringe,
I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.
