CVT FILTER BOLTS
Hi folks, just doing my first service and having a nightmare trying to get the two fixing screws out on the filter.I've noticed that on later models these are now bolts. Would I be able to swap mine for the later bolt, if I ever get the screws out? I have a 2000 burgman 400 thats done less than 4000 miles, is very shiny but needs some tlc. If this filter was any worse it'd be a bird nest!

its up to you but the filter is just a thin foam, if you get the screws out , you can wash the filter and put it back.. then replace screws, have you got the outer filter cover off the crankcase cover
if so you can probably see the filter through a light plastic holding area to it, if this is the case just put the filter thru and wash then put back

I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

The filter came off but in pieces lol. I've got a new one to put on but like to do things right and can't see how to get the thing behind the plastic cage while its still on the bike. I'll get onto a dealer and see what they do. Cheers

Re: CVT FILTER BOLTS
so its the plastic cage bolts that are stuck..... i would just cut one of the cage plastics so i could bend it and pop it in as it just sits there ... many are not changed and are not even there, as it aids in air flow to the variator, which means the clutch gets the airflow and keeps the clutch dust out , if i was in a hot or dusty country i would be very bothered , but seen as its always bloody raining or cold here... well dont spend too much time figuring it out, bang it in there

I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

You could try this method to remove the screws?

that screw head DID NOT look knackered to me if it is a Phillips type screw head try a dab of valve grinding paste in the cross..that is if it is not completely knackered, if so drill out the head and pull out the filter than get mole grips on the stub.

Re: CVT FILTER BOLTS
Ok so job now done. First bolt came out with one tap of my impact driver and the other with a pair of mole grips. I tried the rubber band and can only imagine that was posted on April fools day lol. Replaced the screws with m6 x 16mm bolts from screwfix. £1.75 for 50!
