Hello from London

Post by Bvagu »

Hello,

My name is Vladimir and I recently got my provisional licence (and CBT). I bought myself a second hand Yamaha X-Max 125 2012 from my local dealer. The scooter had one owner before me and it has all the spear keys (including red one), books and the rest. and it has ~13k miles on the clock. The service book says that it was serviced regularly and a belt and some other bits changed at 12 500. The scooter rides well (do bear in mind I have no base to compare) and I'm generally happy with what I bought for 2.5K (I can only hope that is a good price for that bike).

Being a complete newbie I didn't notice that there was some wear on the front disc when I bought it (no wonder the guy at the shop knocked off 200 quid off the asking 2.7k price) and only noticed when it started to make a sort of "metal to metal" noises on braking, so I had a feel of the front disc and it was a bit "wavy" and the back is nice and smooth. I can only assume at some point the bike was ridden with very little or no brake pads for some time (note I know nothing when it comes to motorcycles).

Needles to say I haven't been on the bike since and I ordered new front disc and brake pads front and rear and I'm looking for a descent dealer to go to put them on. I live in-between Walthamstow and Leyton and advice is much appreciated. This scooter will be my fist "project" since I just received my supply of fibreglass and I have to learn on something... There shall be many questions to come, Thank you in advance.

Kindest Regards,
Vladimir Dimitrov

Vlad...
Welcome - enjoy ya XMax... go for EBC Kevlar pads... way better than the std yamaha pads for braking, price and pad life, inc less disk wear.
If you want to get ya hands dirty and learn... give these guys a ring... http://www.ovalmotorcyclecentre.co.uk/
helpful bunch - should get it all sorted in 2 hours...

Thank you very much for the warm welcome!

Paul that was exactly what I was looking for (bow)! If I had the means you'll have free pints for the rest of your days... :)

P.S. yes the front disc is EBC and the pads as well are EBC Sintered (dunno if those are the Kevlar ones, but they were more expensive)

Here's the first question. Where can I get a workshop manual for 2012 yamaha xmax 125? Evidently my searching skills are nonexistent...

P.S. I should probably post this in the garage section?
