Back pain - move the backrest?

Post by dannyburgman »

Hi everyone

I recently got this Burgman 200 (2009), and I'm getting a lot of lower back pain, which I figured out is something to do with the riding position. It seems to be too short for me, which seems odd, as I'm only 5'9.

Anyway, the backrest looks like it's moveable. But when I had a go today, it comes off, but doesn't seem to be adjustable, unless I'm missing something?

I just wondered if anyone has any experience of this/ideas, or if I've just bought a scooter that's the wrong shape for me!

Thanks
Danny

Yes the back rest is adjustable. Just move it forwards or backwards by moving the adjustment lever under the seat (you'll see it) then pulling or pushing the backrest in the direction you want to move it. Congrats on getting the Burgman and welcome to the site. Have fun!
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

Thanks very much for your reply. I missed it - will check my notification settings!

I looked again, and I don't seem to have a lever - I took a couple of photos:

Does that look as you'd expect?

Many thanks

Oops, I've just learn something then. Must be just the 400's that have the lever. Sorry!

There are aftermarket backrests you might be able to fit on yours, try Googling...
I was researching for my 650 but not sure yet I'd want it....

Feet forward riding posture is not always a good thing if you have had back problems in the past.

Thanks for your replies everyone, I appreciate it.I'll look into an aftermarket backrest.

I had a Piaggio Hexagon before this and my back was fine on that. The suspension's set on its firmest, so I need to get that adjusted!

Seems funny to put an immovable backrest on.

My 400 has a lever under the seat, but the backrest only moves about 2", is this about right? I wish it would go further back, another 2" would be great-----------long legs! Any ideas?
Robin.

I don't think it'll go further back without any clever aftermarket bespoke idea [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]
