07+ Burgman 400 backrest removal ?

Post by Yamaha1 »

Hi - I'm pulling my hair out here. Trying to remove the backrest pad to fabricate a relocation plate - but whatever I try, the backrest
will slide forward - but nothing I do will release it from the seat !! Please don't just suggest "Google it" or "search You Tube" - I've done an exhaustive search - and all seem to say " hold the lever over, and pull to release the backrest "
Mine definately hits some solid stop once the rest is fully forward, and nothing will budge it further.

Has anyone actually removed theirs - if so, how, please?

I take it you mean the riders backrest? The 400Z has a pillion backrest also.
I Googled your title, and good old Micburgsma has a video.
If yours still does not remove then it's stuck and may need further persuasion.

I've also seen that video - but my seat doesn't have any screws where he's pictured removing them - just the holes!!
Thanks for your input.

Its possible you may need to slide the backrest back and forth a little to bring the screws into alignment with the holes. With mine I believe it was just the screw heads acting as stoppers to the whole thing sliding out. Couldn't budge one so ended up grinding the head off it to slide the backrest out.

What a weird setup - I did find the two screws, which are only visible with the backrest slid right back.
However, they are tiny little PK screws about 5mm long, so for holding trim together, not retaining the backrest!!
I did remove partially the 2 large screws either side - but those hold the adjusting mechanism in place.
There 2 more I haven't tried yet - but they aren't in line with the rails - but will see what they do.
