The PCX doesn't and it works just fine without.

I watched a Vespa gts maintenance seminar on you tube by retired Italian guy from Piaggio USA moved over there in early days as technical guru for Vespa .He basically said unless you ride dusty un made roads don't bother as filter blocks up you loose air flow and cooling which leads to belt getting too hot and failing .

Works just fine? Not compared to a Burgman

The PCX does not last as long as a burgman.
Plus the belt wear causes a noticeable reduction in top speed by 10,000 miles.

Its a cheaper system all round, of course it hasn't got a filter. Its part of the cost-cutting that put me off the PCX

From what I remember the PCX is lacking other things in its CVT too; it just isn't as sophisticated.

That doesn't change anything about the burgman or about most bikes having filters.

The Burgman is probably the same only you never get up to top speed to notice.

It works out differently.
At 18k on the belt you can expect to scrub 5mph off the speed at 8850 rpm.

That's quite good then.

Are you comparing 125 burgman to pcx ? Need to know cost of scooter new plus cost of belts otherwise not really a fair comparison.

The PCX definitely does drop speed due to belt wear and also due to tyre diameter.
And gradient.
And headwind.
(just like any other 125)
But the belt still works ok without a filter.

Exactly and if belt only lasts half as long but is half the price no difference as long as DIY.

The change interval for a belt on the PCX is 12,500 miles and they can be had for less than £20
