Hi all.
I'm looking at at getting an Honda nc700 (probably an x) probably with a DCT gear box as my first bike. Looking for something easy to ride and good for commuting. Just wondering what there like living with long term. Any niggles, or regular problems etc anything specific I should look out for.

Seriously... I was tempted myself by the NC700x/s or better 750, its a nice bike and I have not read a single warranted bad review.

Is the 750 worth the extra? I'm not sure if my budget would stretch. 700's cheaper and more insurance friendly.

Ive ridden a 750S manual and a 700X DCT.
The 750 engine is much smoother and has longer valve clearance check intervals meaning reduced servicing requirement/cost.
The 700 engine vibrates really badly.
The DCT on the 750 is reportedly better having been upgraded.
You can easily pick up a used 750 DCT for £4500
imo the S is better than the X, I found the X very uncomfortable but that's really just personal preference.

I have had both a 700 and now the 750, the 750 is Just a better machine all round and still does 80mpg if ridden like a grandad..just stick a chain oiler on or lube when needed and forget about the chain. Chains are far better ( NOW ) than some on here would have you believe, if you like after a test ride BUY...tis your money..and on the NC forum you will find guys who have done BIG miles in not many months, one has done 28000 in just over twelve months and not an issue to report...it's a Honda.. A spannish Mag pulled one to bits when they first came out, it had done 50,000Kls and NO detectable ware was found in the motor or gearbox..and that was a bike ridden by the press all of it's life. i have had two Integra's 700 and 750 and now i have 750X...

A very good bike, I've had a 700X and they are a very practical bike, my helmet fitted in the 'not the tank storage' so just needed a top box for light touring. If the 750 engine is better, maybe I should try one again!

I've had a NC700X for over 3 years and had the 750 version loan bike a couple of times, as Lyn (kayz1) says 750 is all-round slightly better/improved version, but then that's what you'd expect!!!! I wasn't tempted to swap from 700 to 750.
700x was chosen as my “touring bikeâ€ÂÂ, admittedly only ridden 9k mls so far, mainly on Euro tours, bikes never missed a beat, extremely frugal (saw tad over 100mpg on sloooooow wander around the Pyrenees). Personally feel the 700 is way better than my old Burger 650 was on similar trips.
Don't find mine particularly vibby either, and the simple valve check (screw and locknut adjusters) was extended to 16k miles on later 700's.

Thanks for the responses. A 750's a little over my budget but I didn't know about the 700s valve clearance check every 8000miles if I see a 750 at the right price I might go for it. I'm only looking for a run around that can get me to a couple of local (55miles one way) cities when need be maybe a couple of longer distance runs every now and again. I've sat on a x and an s now (but no test rides till I pass my full bike test later this month) and I felt more confortable on the x but the seats on both did seem kinda slippy.
