Hi all,
Another new member here from Portsmouth, in darkest southern England. Been riding bikes for over 20 years and 350,000 miles from MZ250, Jap Customs, via a few commuters, a Jawa 350 and the last 7 years on Adventure Bikes. Current bike is a XT1200Z but due to me developing degenerative disk disease I am looking at getting a Bergman 650 due to the riding position. Hopefully I will arrange a test ride once I have spruced up the current steed(if Adventure bikes look good dirty, mine must be Brad Pit) as I will want to trade it in towards the Bergman.

Welcome. I too moved from motorcycles to scooters for medical reasons. Should have done it years ago. Don't be afraid to look at smaller capacity scooters. I've moved from a VRF800 to a Yamaha YP250R and for 99% of the time it is all I need. Once you adjust your mind set to more relaxing travel you really appreciate what a scooter can offer. Having said that they are still really"chuckable". What ever you get I'm sure you will enjoy it. Don't forget the photos for the Showroom section. Cheers

This is why scoots handle well;-

With their clothes off you can see how low their CG is. This contributes a long way towards that "flickable" feeling you get from good ones.
You might be quite surprised how small a scoot you can ride and still do all you need. Distance touring on a 300-400cc scoot is easy. Don't get carried away with BHP figures like i did early on in my scoot life

Had a low centre of gravity on my Drag Star. Used to be able to keep 600 sports bikes honest with its snarling 33 bhp. To be fair, they ridden by less experienced riders while I was commuting 36,000 miles a year on it over A and B roads.
Did try out some of the'big' scooters way back (BMW's C1 had just came out) but never got Suzukis offering. Back then it was the lack of being able to down shift for an overtake which put me off. Now though it's a completely different ball game

I have a Honda Silverwing; I had a test ride on a 650 Burgman but it wasn't for me.

Others will tell you that 'down-shifting' on a larger-capacity maxiscooter in order to overtake just means winding open the throttle - I can't speak for the smaller-capacity scooters but they don't hang about.

I ride to 'Southampton Bike Night' on most Thursday evenings - P2Ws of all types are welcome.

Managed to not get to Southampton bike night so far but will do soon. Hopefully will arrange a test ride with Cresent Suzuki one I have finished cleaning the XT1200. It could take a while !
