icon_ffs.png where is this thread going??? 1/2 lap start, egos and abilities.
This afternoon while out with the wife I was behind an elderly lady in a car driving close to the the national speed limit , safely, I was glad, because we were making progress. Speed limits are set for a reason. On a Rospa exam if your not sticking to speed limits when safe to do so, you wont get a good pass result. Riding at 60 mph on a 60 marked road isn't dangerous or racing, its expected to keep the traffic flowing.
Im not a gynecologist, but I dont mind taking a look.

No idea where the thread's going, but if everyone is expected to travel at the maximum permitted speed for their entire journey, I'm buggered, few, if any, of my travels are consistently at maximum permissible speed these days, I thought the maximum was the maximum not the target
Have wheels, will travel :D

It can be round here with the more-or-less complete absence of road maintenance that we have to endure this side of the hills! Potholes half way round a bend aren't much fun with a 10" rear wheel. Anyway, what happens when you're on your Cub doing 40? ;)

I prefer to ride at a speed I think is safe for me, and that displays an appropriate degree of mechanical empathy with my ancient scooters. All the sign tells me is how fast I could go without potentially getting busted.

Not knocking the OP either; if he wants to give it some on his Tmax then good luck. I agree it's probably for the best that he finds similarly-mounted riders with the same intentions though.

The german tmax group used to have fast and slow groups on their ride outs.
I preferred the slow group every year but it was all organised so we still met up at certain rest stops.
One year Craig decided to try the fast group and nearly crapped himself trying to keep up!
Another time, the slow group had to send out a search party to look for Pikey!

When I ran the local MAG group we used to have organised ride outs. We all stuck together on the ride to the destination, riding sedately with the slow bikes and inexperienced riders at the front so the ride leader could set the pace to their speed ( fast lot sat at the back so they could play a bit). On the return it was every rider for them selves - though we had to continuously warn he new plastic fantastically not to try to keep up with my custom, Terry's scooter (Very early maxi scooter, Christ he could ride that) or Max on his CX500 as they would loose. When we did weekend runs, I would lead the slow lot (wife was on the back so no fun :( ) while the riders who wanted a fast ride got there separately.
These days I tend to avoid mass ride outs or if I do go on one I marshal as they are too dangerous. Mostly riders who get out 3 or 4 times a year, not paying attention to the road, only fixated on the rider in front while going far too slowly. Far more fun marshalling

Normally for the local toy rides etc I am one of the regular marshals - we have all been doing this for 20 years so we all know how we ride etc and work like a well oiled machine. The last run could not marshal as I had just done my back in and could not handle the bike as I would like so sat in the run. Holy crap that was scary, mostly down to riders not being able to ride. Numerous things scared me.
If you are in a marshalled ride you are supposed to keep an eye out for the marshals overtaking not just ignore your mirrors. The inability to keep position in a staggered line not just swap from the outside to near side on a whim.
Mostly it's people not looking. My head is always in motion checking mirrors, side roads, the pavement etc for hazards, but the people in the run, no. Gaze fixed on the rider in front. Also notice this when overtaking the run as a marshal. (While stood up on the pegs to get a greater distance view for on coming traffic - this will be a challenge on the Burg)
No wonder people are part of the ATGATT church. They can not ride a bike so need as much protection as they can get for when they fall.
