Yamaha MT 125

Hi,

I am thinking of replacing my Xmax 125 with an MT 125 next year.

Does anyone know where the air filter is on this bike. (As I have had an R125 before) I assume it may be under the petrol tank.

If so, how do you remove the petrol tank to replace the filter.

I am going to put a K&N air filter in.

The attached link to youtube shows some popular mods for a Yamaha MT 125

I didn't check but 4mins 43 seconds shows the petrol tank removed to fit heated grips so it may give details of air filter replacement.

Why?
Do you want it to go slower, make more noise or wear out quicker ?

Now i may be wrong 'cos i don't know the Yam but most 125s cannot easily be "souped up" 'cos they are designed to be the power they are.
Think your MT125 is already 15bhp so that puts it head and shoulders above most (not all) current 125s in the UK market. It will be a pretty quick bike as standard. With nice well sorted FI and electronics designed to work with the OE air box.

Don't do it
Spend the money and time on hours on the road and/or training, that's what will make you faster (if that's your aim)

The main reason I am putting it in is to save money. I have it on my current bike, over 31000 miles. No speed or noise issues.

A stock air filter = £10 (needs replacing)
A K&N air filter = £40 (no replacing, just cleaning and a bit of oil)

Ah, is this the KN replacement for the standard one, keeping the original air box ?

It is, the air box will remain original. Just the air filter element that will be replaced.

Quite a change from an auto scoot to a manual naked bike.

Why the change ?

I used to have a VanVan and have gone the other way as I got tired of the gear changes in traffic and lack of protection on dirty roads.

Hopefully I will be moving next year, so my commute will change. Getting the MT will save quite a bit in fuel.

My wife and I used to go away on my auto scoot together, which is why I initially got it. But as we are planning to expand the family, she won't be a pillion anymore.

I also kind of miss riding a more sporty bike. I will have the get used to the gear changes again. Used to ride an R125, but that was 1.5 years ago.
