No, these are the economics of the madhouse!!! :o
Cars are far cheaper to maintain - until they go wrong when the bills are appalling....

Hyvo chains have been used for years for motorbike and car camchains, and even more years (decades) in heavy industrial machinery, just as normal roller link chains have been. Compared to an exposed belt I would think either of them, kept clean and running in oil would last the lifetime of the bike, under normal use.
However, call me cynical but a good profit for Yamaha selling belts at almost £300 a shot..plus fitting charges for the dealer. :?

I just replaced the drive belt on my Burgman 400, it was 55 pounds. I always use Gates drive belts. On my Silver wing I usually pay 80 /100 pounds, it needs changing every 16,000mls, so I have three used belts as back up spares if ever needed.

Sylar, I get my Silverwing belt from Makina Parts. At the moment a genuine Honda belt is £71. I think they are in Greece but even with shipping they aren't too bad. I've had one on for the last couple of years which is nearing the time for replacement soon. I'll buy from them again. They delivered in a couple of days I seem to remember.
Nothing wrong with Gates belts as far as I know but this way a genuine Honda belt is actually a bit cheaper.

Just a bit of info...

Always greatful for info Cookie thanks, I'll make a note of the name. I'm at 26,000mls on my 2014 Silverwing, it will need an MOT in July. So I'll be looking for a new belt later this year
