Checked the brake pads & found the rear down to a shade under 1mm - so took them out & gave the calliper a good clean - front still have a couple of mm to go, but might as well replace them all at the same time, so whipped them out too. Visit to the local dealer on the cards for tomorrow (but I'll have to cycle now as I can't be bothered putting the pads back in just to take them out again).

Unfortunately other stuff got in the way of the memorial ride today so it's clean and prep the bike for next weekend today/tomorrow ready for next weekend in Wales/Forest of Dean where the big Burg will be playing with Suzuki B Kings.muddyfox wrote:Might even give it a proper wash Sunday once I have done a trip up to the National Aboritum on Saturday
Z750J we are going Sunday 7th for Stuart's Memorial Ride. Would you not be better washing it Saturday and coming with us Sunday ?

Re: What have you done to your Scooter today?
Whenever I service the brakes I find I can use reverse pliers (sometimes with a bit of rubber tube over the ends) to rotate the pistons a bit to make sure they are free to move. I usually pump them out a bit first, the trick is to pump them out enough to clean them all the way around, coat them with plumber's silicon grease and then push them back in again. The silicon is good because it repels water like nothing else so they last a good while before they need servicing again.JohnnyC wrote:Checked the brake pads & found the rear down to a shade under 1mm - so took them out & gave the calliper a good clean - front still have a couple of mm to go, but might as well replace them all at the same time, so whipped them out too. Also check the sliders are free to move as that can make pad wear uneven.

Cheers matey - I'll look out for plumber's silicon grease. Ended up putting the pads back in as my local dealer didn't have replacements - I'll order them online......always disappointing as I like to support local shops etc .....oil change on the cards for tomorrow.

Checked the front pads. Still about 2-3mm left on them. Rear tyre is now showing small cracks in the remaining treads (about 2 mm) so the new tyres go on next week!
