Trouble is we are so restricted where we can camp, let alone have a fire! The cool camping site is quite good for finding some more natural sites and glamping in hobbit house type things some of these will have firepits to use,
I'm afraid gone are the days when you could wander through a forest and pitch camp where you liked? When you see these type programs on tv it makes me smile, you try doing and see what happens, slightest sniff of smoke and a national trust or forest ranger will appear?
Kelly kettles are really good as choice of fuel we have just used bbq lighters in them, same with the hex type stove, which is why I made the hex stand for the trangia burner, three bbq lighters will boil the kettle, also used to punch some holes in a baked bean can and stuff with corrugated cardboard that works mostly!
Next time you get a fire going try a spud egg? Large potatoes cut about a third of one end, hollow out centre crack an egg into it, put the third you cut off back on with couple of matches to secure it, double wrap in foil stick it in the embers, you will end up with a hard boiled egg in middle if you do it right! Course you can use different fillings baked beans mince...but the egg used to amaze the scouts! Bananas as well make slit in the skin and stuff chocolate in there and foil wrap and into the embers, great till some smart alec announces what it looks like! Then they run for the bushes! Oh happy days I must be getting old!

Or try a Bunny Chow. Heat up your favourite curry in the pan. Take a loaf and cut it in half. Scoop out the middle and fill with the curry. Place the scooped out bit on top and eat. No washing up, apart from the pan.

Probably 30 years since at shell island? They wouldn't let you sleep in a motor home then? You had to have some sort of tent or awning, it is a nice place though
