During summer we were seeing a lot of registrations from dodgy email accounts so we put in measures to reduce this as dealing with is was getting really tedious.

And I believe I have discovered the bad bot that was causing the issue, I have banned it's IP range, we'll see what effects that has as I was still seeing spikes in server load.
