Handbrake operation, is it included in the MOT?

Post by Taipan »

Hi All,
Question as per title really, do MOT testers check a handbrake if a scoot has one?
TIA

Just a guess but I think that if it has one fitted as standard then yes.

When I had the Bergman I don't remember the tester ever trying it.

Same here can’t remember seeing them test handbrake on my T-max.

No mention of “handbrake “ on mot check list for motorbikes .

I can barely remember when mine last worked. It's passed at least half a dozen MOT's since then.

Yes, I've never seen the tester ever test the parking brake on any of my Tmaxs....though I do have a memory that its been stated on here before that if there is a parking brake it has to work! Which certainly isn't the definitive answer Taipan was looking for. They certainly don't try it on the rolling road!

Thanks for all the replies. The question was for a guy on another forum who has a 400 Burger with a suddenly broken handbrake and a now expired MOT, so he'll be relieved to know this!

I asked this a couple of years ago when mine went through first mot. Tester said handbrake is not specifically mentioned in check list so he doesn’t test it. However there’s a generic mention of brake “components “ mentioned so it’s a slightly grey area. A pedant may check it!
