Hydrogen is the way to go, still not sure why its sidelined, and nicely gets you away form all of the battery contents issues etc too.
For some reason, people seem to be looking at Hydrogen for buses & trucks, rather than cars & scoots. I've seen a few news stories about Hydrogen buses being built. Perhaps people are worried about the general public's incompetence - Hydrogen needs proper handling, and I guess a whole new infrastructure will be needed to supply hydrogen filling stations, which will be expensive.

A hydrogen powered Burgman prototype was made in the UK a decade ago but never saw production. Shame, really although the performance was only at 125 level.

Specs are nice but I would rather this was from a known manufacturer - SYM, Honda, Lexmoto etc. rather than someone who's brought a container over from China.

That 120mile range though Is probably at 30mph (maybe less).

The simplest way to get range or battery watts is to times the battery Voltage by it's ah.

80ah X unknown voltage (let's say 60v) = 80x60=4800watts

9000w motor so flat out at 75mph.

4800/9000=0.53 or just over half an hour so about 30miles at top speed range.

I'm guessing other factors will come in but I believe this is the best way to estimate range on electrics?

Makes sense to me! There again, 9kw is about 12bhp - same as my old Piaggio Skipper 125 - and that would only get to 70 (on the speedo) in the most optimal conditions - normal top speed was around 60. The most punchy 125s have 15bhp and they might get to 75mph.

We need hydrogen production plants near the coast to make it with wave powered electricity.

You could transport it all with Hydrogen, even have little power stations near towns etc.

Its so clean and brilliant.

They are talking about wreaking Havoc on the sea bed to get precious metals for all the batteries going to be needed for just electric wehicles.

For me electric vehicles are akin to the bonkers cutting down forests to burn for electric and many others as bad. The Battery downside is crazy.

Put your power where you are.

We also won`t have the roads all clogged with all the large numbers of dailiy stoppies out of power, or have to cover acres of green for electric charge parking places etc.

Its wierd, if someone came up with how good Hydrogen is, you would say " wow " a spot on answer at last ?

If this scoot doesn't suit, I've read several reports that BMW are considering recreating the C1 roofed scoot in electric form, this time with a demountable roof. Several patents registered apparently. Snag might be that you could buy several of these Chinese scoots for the price an electric C1!

Agreed. The petrol/oil distribution network would need relatively little change to distribute and deliver compressed hydrogen and hydrogen could be used in internal combustion engines or in the longer term through fuel cells. It can only be for commercial and political reasons that this hasn't happened already.

I read a while ago that the bigger the engine the better Hydrogen Fuel Cells work.
So that would make sense since nobody has made a viable motorcycle setup yet......

You are all aware of how hydrogen fuel cells work, yes?

I ask because I have heard arguments previously about how hydrogen negates the need to develop electric motors and batteries.

Hydrogen is not intended as a direct propulsion fuel like petrol or diesel.

Hydrogen fuel cells are used to power a generator. That generator provides electrical power to charge up batteries, that are the power source for electric motors.

Hence, a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is an electric vehicle, just with a convenient means of power generation on- board. Batteries can therefore be smaller than on a totally electric vehicle.

No we aren't. We have huge surplus capacity.

I have produced facts on this in the past on here. The UK has a surplus of power generation. So much so that the still-functioning coal fired power stations have been effectively turned off for the best part of a year.
capitano wrote: Fri Aug 31, 2018 3:02 pm It's massively long winded to quote individual articles and facts to back up what I claimed above.

However, read:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_in ... ed_Kingdom

plus:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renewable ... ed_Kingdom

... and they give a general picture of where we are.

The illustrative except from the first link is this:

"The total of all renewable electricity sources provided for 14.9% of the electricity generated in the United Kingdom in 2013,[63] reaching 53.7 TWh of electricity generated.

In June 2017 renewables plus nuclear generated more UK power than gas and coal together for the first time. In 2017 new offshore wind power became cheaper than new nuclear power for the first time.
[
"

It shows how far things progressed in just 4 years.

This BBC article sums it up neatly. We're still reliant on gas, but renewables are increasing year-on-year as a major source of energy:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-42495883

Remember, our target was 30% of energy produced by renewables by 2020, and take a look at the graph below. I said we were ahead of targets. In essence, we were actually a hair's breadth off the 2020 target a full 3 years in advance.I'd call that, "ahead of target." 8-)
