J.I.S. Screw Drivers

Halfords had no idea they were selling JIS screwdrivers in their screwdriver sets when I brought mine, I suppose some wally purchased them from a Japanese company and forgot to ask. The set also contained some flat headed ones.

Thank you Jim. Neither I nor people I have spoken in my bike club had ever heard of them. But a quick look on the web found them on sale in larger tool outlets, along with explanations of how and why they should be used on all the Japanese gear we tend to use down here. I will buy a set forthwith and stop swearing and stripping screw heads on my bike, car and power tools.

I’m pleased that at least some folk have found the information useful.

Personally I’m finding much more use for my J.I.S. drivers now than hitherto because most screws I deal with are simply J.I.S. and are easily buggered by a ‘normal’ Philips type driver due to their mysterious ‘cam-out’ feature.

Most people overlook the scoot/bike toolkit pouch. I have often found the rather cheap looking double screwdriver bit provided is in fact a JIS. My teng no 1 pozi wouldn't look at a brake fluid reservoir screw once yet the toolkit one literally stood upright unaided when inserted to the screw head proving it was the correct fit.

The new Sealey JIS set definitely fit the Jap screws in my toolbox better than my old set. They go deeper and feel more secure.
