Re: Riding our Scooters Again?
Insurance during lockdown - I suspect that both versions are true. There is probably no legal reason to withdraw insurance, but Insurance Companies are infamous for trying to find any possible reason not to pay claims - so they slip in some 'reserve the right to...' words regarding Covid. Any withdrawal or alteration of insurance would be complainable to the Insurance Ombudsman. No doubt it would come down to whether either side were acting 'reasonably'.

The thing to bear in mind is that anyone undertaking illegal activities of any kind ie: having an accident while using your scooter for a bank robbery getaway
, or being out on the road without a good reason during lockdown is breaking the law and will be treated as such by the law and by your insurers who will look at exactly what happened. Of course I'm expecting they will only be notified if you have caused an accident or been involved in one I should think. This has been covered on tv and in all the papers early last year. I was written to and emailed by my car insurance company reminding me of this fact, but also reminding me that my insurance remains unaffected by lockdown par se for all legitimate uses. Some others on here also received letters or emails. In reality there will be grey areas as you intimate. If anyone gets their insurance withdrawn or altered by the insurance company it has widespread consequences for that person and will affect their lives for sometime to come ie: you have to declare it to any insurance company you wish to deal with for house, car or bike insurance, and to some finance houses if you wish to take out a loan. This will push up your premium considerably or affect whether or not you can get a loan or get a loan at a good interest rate as you will be considered a bigger risk. So it's worth bearing in mind.
But enough of that. I have a fully legal trip on the scooter to make today and the sun is shining!
Edit: just rechecked the Insurance ABI site. The advice is a little more less clear if you see what I mean. It's been updated and they now say if you drive during lockdown your insurance won't be affected if you stick to government guidelines at all times. So I think care is still needed and we still must have a genuine legal reason to go out. The wording has changed a little.
