Hi Guys, my name is AndyB, I’m 74 years old and have been riding motorcycles since the day I was 16 (back in 1966).whilst I've had a few breaks from motorised 2 wheels, I’ve had too many bikes to list and currently (and probably finally) own a 2022 red Honda Forza 350 on a 23 plate. I live in the West Country and love to ride on Exmoor, where the road surfaces can leave much to be desired. I researched the Forza 350 before I bought it and 50% of comments said the suspension was brilliant and 50% said it was poor!
So I went in with my eyes and mind open. I can see why people said it was brilliant- it is - on smooth roads! I was already prepared to spend big on suspension if I liked the rest of the scoot. I loved it it’s plenty quick enough for me these days and not much can touch it (in the real world) off the line. I had the forks upgraded with Ohlins springs and had the rear shocks replaced with YSS piggy back shocks - what a difference! The sting has been taken out of rough roads, amazingly the scoot is less prone to dive under heavy braking (which I don’t do much) and it holds a better line on fast sweeping bends - a win, win, win! James at JPR motorcycles, up on Mendip, did the work. He is considered an expert in setting up privateers racing motorcycles - yet he has a soft spot for Maxi Scooters.
I’m thinking of fitting Metzler Karoo Street tyres (as fitted as OE on the ADV350) what is anybodies real world experience of these - especially when part worn? The Pirelli Diablo rear has become very “interesting” over white lines now it is more than half worn out.
As I’ve been riding up 25% muddy gradients this Autumn, I’ve thought that more drive at very low speed would give me better control. Does anybody have any experience of a Polini Maxi High Speed Variator? I don’t need to go faster. A bit more acceleration in the 40-70 mph range could always come in handy, I’ve ridden the scoot enough now to have a reduced desire to blast away from the lights but more drive on very steep hills would be a serious bonus. Currently the bike shudders quite a bit when negotiating such hairpins. My Forza has almost completed 4000 miles. Currently I get around. 84 mpg I have seen 90 and I’ve never had less than 78 on a run - I’d rather like to keep that sort of economy.
By the way I chose the Forza over the ADV partly because I preferred the dash, I didn’t want wider bars but mostly I wanted the superior mirrors and, above all, the electric screen - which, contrary to many Road Testers’ reports, I adjust many times on most of my rides!
Thanks in advance,
Andy B
