Honda Price Drop - SH Mode

Post by Argyll »

The recent £500 price drop has me looking again at the SH125 Mode. I like the flattish seat and lower height of the bike but, from what I've seen on-line, it struggles to reach 60 mph, even although it has a bit more torque than the alternatives. It's not actually the top speed that bothers me, it's whether it would get up the hills where I live without holding up the coastal traffic, most of whom probably sit at around 50 mph going up the hilly bits.

If anyone owns/owned one, can you confirm whether the increased torque actually translates into better pulling power? Thanks

If you can get on C90club forum, there’s a brilliant story from Bogger, telling how he bought a Mode 125 last year, and rode it to Poland.

Essentially, it was brilliant, and performed far better than the SH125i, also on the trip.

Frankly, the Mode is an absolute bargain at the discounted price.

I copied the concluding paragraph in case you can’t access the post:

All the bikes ran perfectly. There were no mechanical dramas or even a single puncture.

As for the SH Mode. What a fantastic machine, no really, it’s a superb bit of kit.

It’s fast, frugal and comfy. When I first pondered whether to buy the SH Mode or the SH125i I really struggled to make a decision between the two.
The Mode won out mainly because it was a lot lighter than the SH125i, which was more suitable for in the back of the Motorhome. Also it was £900.00 cheaper.

In my humble opinion the only benefit of the SH125i over the Mode is the slightly larger fuel tank and larger under seat storage. But lets’ not forget I have conclusive proof that the Mode is also faster that the SH125i.

Thanks.

Unfortunately I can't seem to access the c90 forum but your synopsis probably says all that I need to know.

I was almost on the point of going to try out the Mode for size when I spotted a used Sym Jet 14 LC on Gumtree. I had a couple of test runs on it and it does everything I need. Loads of power but sadly no abs. The seat isn't flat either but it was in lovely condition and inexpensive. Ride home took me just over an hour on a mixture of roads and every mile was fun.

Capitano, Thanks for that c90 link I enjoyed reading it, Ive ridden some of the areas they visited, Cologne, Maastricht and Ypres. They didn't mention if they visited the Flanders Field museum which is really worth a visit. We went to watch the last post being played at the Menim Gate. We got Ypres about midday intending to have a mooch around the town and then go to the Gate at eight, we went into the museum an by the time we came out in time to have a drink and bite to eat before going to the Gate. Brillaint place. Thanks again.
By the way nice to see a tour done oon small bikes, scooters.

Bogger writes a decent account. He and Black Country Pete are just about the funniest double act I've ever known. Just don't leave your tent unlocked when they are around.

I spent last weekend with them (and Mottza) at the C90club Southern Softies camp. I found a discarded child's bicycle in my tent on Saturday night!

I did just over 1000km in a week in Rhodes on a Sym with the same engine. Symply the best 125 auto I've ever ridden. 8-)
