Newbie with tmax 530 problem

Post by Keko013 »

Hello everyone, I am from Croatia and this is my first post on this forum.

This summer I’ve bought Yamaha Tmax 530 dx 2017 with akrapovic exhaust and polini vario. I did small service at our local yamaha dealer and they said it’s everything fine with scooter but I have some problems when accelerating.

If you pull 70%-80% throttle, it’s fine, it starts to accelerate okay. If you give it full throttle 100% it goes wild up to 80km/h and then sometimes it cuts power like it dies for 1-2 seconds, sometimes you can hear something scratches for 1 second and then it starts to accelerate again like crazy.

I am new to these scooters so I would like to know if this symptom sounds like a clutch or maybe worn belt.
Local yamaha dealer said “well, don’t ride it like that with full throttle” :?

This sounds like typical variator issue and the engine may be hitting the rev-limiter and briefly cutting out. Given the non standard components it is important that they are checked because there are many things that could go wrong varying from incorrect assembly to premature failure of poor quality items. Most likely the trouble will get worse and, if you bought the scooter from the Yamaha dealer you refer to, such advice is not to be trusted. Remember that components such as the Polini are sold for racing rather than everyday use and regular inspection is advisable.

Roadster is spot on.

Could also be the ASR as the front wheel lifts and the rear gets near the edge of the adhesion curve. Doesn't matter really the effect is the same.

Thank you for your replies. I forgot to mention, sometimes at lower speed, when I give it a bit of throttle, it feels like it is not engaging right away, I have this weird feeling that something is sliping. I have bought it from person, not official dealer, that’s why it has polini vario. After 1 000km this started to happen while driving. What do you recommend?

Nothing shows up on screen when this happens, but yes. When you think about it, maybe rolleys or something slips and then I hit the rev limiter, rpm goes down a little bit until rollers engage again. Maybe vario rollers are bad.

Once any kind of problem starts within the primary drive casing it quickly leads to belt damage and overheating which at some point ends with catastrophic failure and often a seized up back wheel. Needs to be investigated ASAP.
