Did they save money by outsourcing the engine to Kymco? Can the company not build one in house?
From that decision by the company, I will start looking at Kymco products and cut out the middle man.
:(

perhaps bmw market research are after tempting the bmw owner who is finding his huge 1200 german tank a bit much to handle...and tempting them to stay on 2 wheels with a user friendly maxi scoot..? the older beemer customer does have plenty wedge in their pocket.... mite as well spend it on a bike while they still have some life left in em..?

Oh well, no need to test ride one now
Its stupid money but then looking at prices of other BMWs you have to be stupid to buy them new, so obvioulsy those stupid enough will still pay the money!

Puts it all into perspective when you could buy 2 Maxsyms for the money.... I bet the BMW isnt twice as good either. Its a shame really, its priced most if not all the UKs Maxi scooter fans out of it. I wasnt far off, Im sure I said it would be 9.5k?

Ouch. The extras really should be there as standard.

I wonder what the service intervals are like as everything needs to be of a high standard to compete with the burgman 650 which is cheaper, nearly as powerful and has a vey good reputation.

Well, being a Kymco engine itll be every 3000 miles or less

Seriously though, it needs to be better quality wise than the Tmax or Burger 650 and from the examples we saw at the NEC it aint. Even if I had 10k I just wouldnt pay that for a bike/scooter. Theres just no need, and yes those extras should be included but BMW like all German makes charge for every conceivable extra and dont give owt away.

I think I've seen service intervals of 6000 miles quoted somewhere. All the mags / websites have commented that the plastics aren't as sumptuous as you'd expect and the general finish is pretty basic - lots of exposed screws etc. That was one thing Yamaha went to town on in the mk3 Tmax, though the mk4 received some negative comments about some of the minor plastic bits.

If they are going to include ABS and the wacky sidestand/parking brake thing on every scoot and an electric screen on the GT version, you'd have thought that they'd include heated grips wouldn't you! Especially on the GT version, and especially in North European markets where it gets cold in winter! What is slightly odd is that the price of the Highline versions of the Sport and GT models are now very close, despite the GT being better equipped and clearly intended to be a premium product to sell to wealthy ageing bikers who don't fancy an R-RT anymore or find that the K1600GT is just too gross (not to mention expensive at £16K)

If you want the heated grips, seats... they come as a package which also has daytime running lights and tyre pressure control... oh whoopee! And the cost of that lot.... £750!!! So your GT will be £10,445

Or you could get a Burgman 650 for £8175 plus a Piaggio Fly for £2,149.00 for when the Burgmans being serviced and £121 change :D
