Yeah maybe if I'd have had some training I wouldn't have braked on a wet bend.

I've never had any training and can ride any auto which obviously means the 850's. I started on 50cc mopeds for a year then did a CBT to ride a 125 then passed the A2 auto test without taking a single lesson.
The CBT is training and the practical test(s) meant you had to reach a level of competence before being allowed on a more powerful machine, so yes you did have training.

The LT requires no knowledge or training or level of competence on a motorbike. Nor does it require a helmet when riding (legally).

And no, you can't ride ANY auto as you can't ride an LT as it's not officially a bike you need a car licence (unless you have a car licence too obviously) icon_spin-on-head.gif

In comparison to that, someone with a car licence on an LT is positively safe.
And the accident statistics for bikers was horrific. Just because something used to be done one way doesn't make it right or safe, hence why the law was changed. The LT is nothing more than an attempt to circumvent the law.

That's debatable. I don't remember learning anything new on that day.

I would say it complies with the law rather than circumvents it.
Quite honestly I can't see what the fuss is about.
If you can drive a car and ride a bicycle you have all the skills required to use an LT.

but maybe not the sense, hurtling along on a bicycle at car like speeds requires different thinking and considerations.

In a similar vein to tax avaoidance schemes, it doesn't comply with the spirit of the law, only the technicalities (like the worthless footbrake).

I couldn't disagree more with saying car drivers who ride a bicycle have the skills for the LT.

Stuff like lifesavers and defensive riding, being able to plan ahead for hazards, proper cornering, carrying a pillion, road positioning, emergency stops, basic (but important) maintainance etc are incredibly important and need to be learned and tested for specifically to have the skills to operate a motorcycle safely.

But we'll agree to disagree, I just hope there aren't any horror stories of people getting hurt because of not having the proper skills to ride these safely.
