To Horrobags & ZZG & anyone else coming up the M6.

Weather Permitting:  We could meet up at Forton Services (just South of Lancaster) at about 09:30 to 09:45 (time for a brew?) before riding on to Hawes. It should only take just over an hour from Forton Services to Hawes according to Google Maps.

If going to Hawes Muppets, be aware the cafe in the town opposite the chippie were you could park has been extended and is now part of the pavement. Personally i always park in the carpark itself. Have a nice day :D

Are you coming to Hawes that Sunday, Syalr? I missed meeting you at the Manchester Bike Show @ Trafford.

Could easily make the meet. Somehow i seem to upset people, so i normally ride alone. I have breakfast before setting out on rides, so i don't like meeting people who then have thier breakfast. Riding in a group: i don't brake on bends so if someone in front continually brakes on bends it makes it dangerous for me,but, if i overtake them it seems to cause upset. If i lead 3-4 people i'm okay, but i don't like following anyone. Hawes - Settle area is where i ride a lot so i have my own routes. The times i stop it is just for a tea and a break ,not for a meal as i have my meals at home sat at a table especially on Sundays. If you are from Blackburn do you have Blacburn across the top of your screen?? if so i was just leaving Glasson dock a couple of weeks ago and saw the bike parked up, otherwise i would have had a chat. :)

Hi Ginge

My cunning plan was to use the Hawes ride out as a starting point for lots of Muppet rides. Because its fairly central for most in the North it seemed ideal. I know theres a few members on the East coast side so what about a ride out to Scarborough. Whitby should be a definite destination for the NE Lads and us from the West Yorks area. Send me a message when your free on a Sunday and lets meet up. Gerard

Hi Sylvar

Any suggestions for a ride based fom Hawes? Some local knowledge would be good. I find riding in a group is a definite experience. I find the secret is to leave a good gap. Not being a wise arse saying that because I agree some people do slow down more than expected. There’s a section on this site regarding riding in a group, its worth reading. The drop off method works great - as long as everybody understands the method. It looks as if we will have a good turn out on Sunday - weather permitting - Muppets melt in the wet. Ha Ha. Be nice to see you there. Maybe you could lead a ride?

riding in a group is a good experience, just use a little common sense, leave a decent gap, if you overtake, move over and leave plenty of gap on the width, when I ride alone I loke to get a bit of a move on, but when riding with others, I adapt my riding style to suit everyone else, group riding isn;t a race, its a fun sociable day out.
All being well if I can make this meeting, by the time I get to hawes, I wont want to go for another ride out (hawes is a fair run for me), but It would be great to meet up for a chat and a brew, before you set off.
John, is there any chance we could meet at the Rocket centre, near you, and then head up through Clitheroe towards Skipton, as a blat up the M6 to Lancaster is the last thing I want. :)
Im not a gynecologist, but I dont mind taking a look.

I did read the article about riding in a group, and did learn from it. I was at the Rocket centre yesterday, and at Robinsons in Rochdale(bought a new winter flip up helmet). I once offered one of my rides when I first joined the Muppets, no one turned up. I have ridden in a group both with the Ugly bunch and with the Honda Owners Club, same problem, i seem to upset people without knowing how. I guess i am just used to riding on my own and at my pace. I ride all year round and use winter to explore new routes. There are times when i stop for a brew and join someone on a run especially if they don't know the area. So I will be out on the 22nd but i won't be joining you. Have a good day though. :) Horobags, no need to go anywhere near Lancaster if going from Rocket Centre. Gerard c how far do you want to go from Hawes, and where do you want to end up?? Try to take in the Ribbleshead via duct, its quite a sight for those that haven't seen it before.
