What was the problem for the re-call and over what period of time are bikes being effected? Is it just one batch as SYM have been making JETs for years?

What brand either in the car or bike world that hasn't had a re-call over a safety issue at one time or another?

Recall Summary

The frame on some SYM Jet 4 Scooters may collapse.

Recall Issue

SYM has found that the frame on their Jet 4 Scooters may crack adjacent to the rear footrests. This could lead to the frame collapsing and loss of control.

SYM are recalling the affected Jet 4 Scooters and checking the frame. Where necessary SYM will replace the frame with one of a modified design.

SYM Jet 4 Scooters Affected By This Recall

This recall affects 688 Sym Jet 4 Scooters, both the 50cc and 125cc models. These scooters have VINs in the ranges:-

LXMAD 12W1AX003084 to LXMAD 12W1BX009948
LXMAD05W19X049099 to LXMAD05W1BX024928

Seem to remember the Hayabusa sustaining a (big) number of frame failures which necessitated a recall...?

May be considered controversial but Sym should be applauded for their recall action. They've taken responsibility and action to resolve. Unlike Suzuki on the well documented 03/04 Burger 650 primary spline flaw, as well as the 400 '08 redesign clutch-bell issue.

No manufacturer is exempt from production issues, the big question is how they respond.

Though SYM have their european branch in Germany their products are not popular here at all.

I have only seen one SYM Jet 4 125cc in the flesh so far and must say it didnt impress me at all. Very small for a maxi scooter ( at least compared to my X9 ).

Very true. The Satelis was the biggest seller in the German market in its class for quite while.

So why did BM display poorly made scoors at the NEC last year? Couldn't they spot the poor cheaply made plastics on their new 10k scoots, or perhaps they just weren't embarrassed enough. I've had 2 BMW bikes and they were both shite...never again. There has also been a number of engine related problems with some of the newer BM models.

I've also had a near brand new Mercedes car which required a brand new gear box at 10 k miles. No more German Shite for me thanks. That bloody car also had rattling suspension. While my Merc was getting sorted out at the garage I was given a large new saloon to go and play with for the afternoon. While driving along the drivers door mirror started shaking and then fell out. The only thing that stopped it from smashing on the road was the wire for the mirror heater. The mirror glass was stuck on using double sided sticky tape. I hope they've improved things in since.
