On a straight dual carriageway maybe. But not on a twisty road as most harleys corner like shit. In traffic they have to sit there because they can't filter very well due to their size.ridinhigh wrote:Ive never seen any scooter faster than a big bike,,my slowest big bike was my Harley, scooters could leave me at the

A lot of scooters wheely, have a look on youtube.
On full acceleration, my 180 runner would lift up unless I made an effort to avoid it!

180? I had to lean forward off the lights with my 2-stroke Typhoon 125 to keep the bloody front wheel on the ground!Liam wrote:A lot of scooters wheely, have a look on youtube. On full acceleration, my 180 runner would lift up unless I made an effort to avoid it!

will send front wheel skywards making dangerous in town ive done it ,whereas scooter most likely wont wheelie,
and just takes off ,
HAHA PMSFL! You've obviously not ridden or seen any tuned scooters? Italjet Dragsters had a single sided swingarm on the front, which some said made them impossible to wheelie, mine given enough throttle would have the front a good 10 inches off the road if I wasn't careful.

I'd stop digging the hole if I were you, when my mate races at 3 sisters I'll let you know, then you can see how low you can get your knee's down on a scooter round bends LOLridinhigh wrote:Sorry Liam, scooters would not out corner a harley sportster,

Re: British Attitude to Scooters
for most of my time away from here, i been riding with power rangers and other types of BIKERS, when i told them i am going back to scooters and selling the motorbike i had, they didn't want me on any more rides, because in there eyes they say, scooters are not bikes or make you a biker and there slow!
'' scooters are slow ''
'' scooters don't make you a biker''
so now i have a scooter, i am back to SOLO rides, problem with so called BIKERS, is if you Ride a scooter, your not really part of the biker world. Stupid really, my own personal belive is you ride 2 wheels and has a motor, and you take the risk to ride a 2 wheeled motor Vachel over a safer alternative like a car then your a biker!!
I don't tag my self as a scooterist or a biker any more, i am just a person who rides a bike! and enjoys it.

Re: British Attitude to Scooters
Some good points have been made and some crap has also been written.
It’s as if all scooters have been put in the same category and all ‘big’ bikes put in another.
So me on my T-Max, I do not get left behind when playing with ‘big’bikes on B roads and A roads as long as they have loads of bends in them. In fact the more bends the easier it is to keep up and loose some of the power ranger types who are very quick in a straight line; I know this because they catch up again after the bends.
A well skilled rider can set off from the lights fast because they have learnt to control the acceleration with clutch and throttle balance, as opposed to those that say I cannot do it because the wheel comes off the ground.
So let’s not lump things into broad categories like comparing for example a T-Max with an X9, yes both 500cc maxis, however if going touring I am sure an X9 would be of more practical use than a T-Max even though I have never ridden an X9 and a T-Max better for spirited riding on twisty roads.
I have had smaller scooters and they were fun, but fun for different reasons, I have also had ‘big’ bikes including 1000cc 4 stroke jap bikes with the nuts tuned out of them as well as 400cc 2 stroke in a similar vein, so this is not written with a one sided view of either side, I have had both.
Just my thoughts so go on shoot me down.

Re: British Attitude to Scooters
I must confess i don't like Scooters,i mean those noisy smelly two strokes, with some idiot thinking if you lean forward far enough it will make you go faster. My attitude comes from the sixties, when the little Vespas and Lambrettas were screaming up and down the road, and anyone on a Motorcycle got tarred with the same brush for noise-making. The only reason i bought my Silverwing(apart from the physical problem of mounting a motorcycle) was that it was made by Honda, was a fourstroke twin, and to my mind, is actually a motorcycle with a scooter framework.
