Well...in one of my accidents, my boots were scarred on the toecaps, so having some protection in that area might be good idea. Most bike boots are strong in that area, though without steel toe caps. You may not NEED steel toe caps, but I think they are a benefit rather than a drawback.
There are also safety shoes with protective toe caps made of other materials apart from steel.

My Alpine Star boots have served me well over the years, i presently wear a pair of boots i got from Aldi or Lidl (can't remember which) but they are waterproof and get a lot of wear, only problem was, i take a size ten but only the twelve would fit me. Not wise to buy things like this from mail order, you need to try them on. :)

I read a review a while back that placed a bunch of boots in a bathtub, weighted them so they wouldn't float, filled the tub to within an inch of the top of each boot, and let it sit for 24 hours. The only ones that had NO water in them were Sidi On Road. I bought them and they don't leak. They're warm too, fairly easy in and out, and have held up well through three winters.

I used to wear Derri MCBs (I don't think they are available any longer) and they were as waterproof as wellies as they were made of PVC & felt. They kept my feet fairly warm as well.

There again, on scooters, boots are tolerably protected by the fairing, so extreme waterproofness normally isn't essential. However, if you ride a naked bike, then its utterly essential!!!!!

Every year Lidl and Aldi get motorbike gear in, I bought some 'budget' boots from Lidl last year and are very good, especially when on a scooter, I think they were only about £30.

I've got a pair of old sidi boots from a mate that are a bit too big but are easy to get on as they are velcro fastening and are waterproof. I'm waiting for the aldi/lidl bike gear to get some in my size!

I'd go along with that
On the AN400 my soles are on the front fairing and there is bodywork directly above so they don't really get wet unless I step in a puddle when I stop - but obviously I'm a good boy and always plan where my foot will go down - mostly :?
