I've got an open, a flip (and a string bag if I want to look and feel really cool!) which I tend to wear in town (open), or out of town (flip).
I remember the time around 1970 for me when you didn't (and I didn't) have to wear a helmet. The main reason I did start was to keep warm in the winter :o .
Perhaps we ought to talk about short sleeved shirts and flip flops as well

I remember seeing someone trying to start his Lambretta in flip flops, his flip flop flopped and he had to ride barefoot!

I mentioned my car, as its all relative.... it isnt safe but I drive it (well, it is safe but not up to modern standards) same as helmets. You could get hit by a bus but we dont walk around in armour.

Exactly, a lot buy crap helmets from Lidl etc but we dont say anything. My open face is an Arai, its well made and comfortable. When I do longer distance I wear my Schuberth C3, but I cant see my instruments unless I look down from the road and peripheral vision is shit.

It's acceptable it seems to wear the tat from Aldi and Lidl because it's cheap and full face, but not an expensive open face helmet with a full face visor. I was wearing an open face Schuberth J1 when my Airflow screen came off on the A1(M) last year and struck my helmet taking off the top air scoop clean off. It was a shock at the time but by the time I got home I thought I'd post a warning on here, not about the hazards of open face helmets but about losing the Airflow top section.
Well, I don't think any helmet could protect you from being run over at 100mph+!! Personally, I wouldn't trust the cheap tat from Lidl / Aldi, but then again I'm a bit of a helmet snob and wouldn't wear a Caberg either! As for what helmet you need, It all depends on what sort of accident you are planning to have of course....

Marco Simoncelli,

Had a lot of hair and ive always wondered if his helmet was a size to big ,if he had a haircut maybe the helmet would have been a better fit,
just a thought,it was very sad,he was so exciting when racing

A Facebook friend of mine in the USofA ecently asked the question: How many people have ever changed their minds about who they will vote for in an election based on a FB post? The answer, of course, is none.

Everyone who has ridden for 40+ years like I have knows someone who always wears full armor who has had a bad crash and broken bones. Everyone who has ridden for 40+ years like I have knows someone who always rides in sneakers, shorts, and tee shirts, without a helmet where it's legal, and has never scraped an elbow.

So what?

Its a very boring and old discussion.
If you want to remove all the hazards of riding a bike, don't ride one.
Me I wear a full face and will never wear an open face. My choice.
If anyone else chooses an open or flip and ends up grinding their face off on the road I really couldn't give a shit.
And yes, I have seen it happen and yes it is rather unpleasant.
