Bollocks.
It's more or less a copy of the MyRoad engine.
Its an interesting question...just how related are the 'BMW' engine and the MyRoad engine? The original impression (ie PR Spin) was that the engine was designed by BMW and merely built by Kymco, though I've come across some comments that the 'BMW' engine is in some way based on the MyRoad engine. I'd love to know more details
Cannot believe BMW would design from ground up, far more likely a lightly-reworked version of existing Kymco unit. Perhaps they can specify improved tolerances and whatnot but Kymco quality is good anyway, so no great issue apart from paying the BMW price premium for something you can buy without the badge for lots less.

A kymco engine on a BMW does have a bad ring to it. Even though it will perform greatly.
Whatever the case we should be glad BMW is in the game. More competition is what we need.

Totally agree
Unfortunately every mention of it seems to be like dropping a lit ciggy onto rocket fuel

Has anyone any up to date news on the Kymco Myroad ?
I am going to find out what I can ... see if I can find a picture of the engine at least to compare.

A Renault engine in a Formula One car doesn't exactly ring true either, Papa, but they've been quite successful during the past 35 years.

Renault make brilliant engines, even as far back as a Renault 12 same as Peugeot/Citroen, all same firm and government backed, I think the same fingers are in Michelin too

There certainly is a superficial resemblance.
I don't know if BMW would worry particularly about designing a new engine from scratch - as far as I can see, these days engine design is pretty straightforward for manufacturers, or at least their computer aided design programs! The Japanese especially used to seem to enjoy bringing out new engines for the hell of it! If BMW didn't want to start from scratch they presumably could have used the F800 engine as a starting point.
