Re: Big Pugs
Ah but you see the benefit of the hybrid is that it enables peak output of 61 bhp, from a 400...rtfm wrote:A 61hp 400cc scooter sounds good, but 2 wheels please and keep the electric shite, I want to carry my stuff under the seat not 50kgs of milk-float battery and I'm not interested in being a hypocritical eco twat.
Even on a scooter, most of the time is spent on part-open throttle. The requirement for horsepower is for overtaking and peak speed periods, or for hooning away from rest (although torque is more important in the early stages of acceleration and aerodynamics once you get going fast).
If you stop thinking of hybrid as `tree-huggers trouser sausage` and think of it instead as a `turbo-nutter bastards wet dream`, then hybrids look verrry attractive.
Now we've got mini-ICE-with-dual-turbos powering cars, the next step will be the use of a small engine, with turbo and electric assist. Then you don't need ping-pong table sized battery space. Once capacitors get up to speed, conventional ICE's will cease to exist.

Of course. motorcycle developers will just bypass this and stick 2-litre engines into bicycle chassis as we all know: "There's no substitute for cubes..."
Actually there is. It's called `brains`. The Onyx has some, but like all concepts talking about it aint the same as actually doing it. Peugeot need to learn the lesson of the HYmotion.

Re: Big Pugs
Yes, there are several types of hybrid. At one end is the Pious, then there is the more sensible Ampera, and then there is the Porsche 918.
Check out that stats on that.
No, I'll save you all the bother. Courtesy of Top Gear:
"Porsche reckons the plug-in hybrid 918 will hit 62mph from rest in 3.2 seconds, top out at over 199mph and will lap the 'Ring in seven minutes and 30 seconds - 2 seconds faster than the Carrera GT. Using just electricity, it'll top out at 94mph, in silence, probably. Here's the astonishing part: 94mpg and 70g/km of CO2. The future tastes fruity..."

Which is why I quite like the idea of a Satelis hybrid. Cos it'll be cheap to run and sodding quick too. And yes, I actually really would like an Ampera too.

Cost £565,000 + VAT = £678,000.
Range (electric only) - 16 miles. 3hr charging time.
MPG/CO2 - Let's face it, it'll never do 94mpg, not with a 4L high revving 500hp V8.
Meanwhile for £171,000 you can get a Porsche 911 turbo. No way will it's fuel bill cost £507,000!

Re: Big Pugs
I had a Toyota Auris hybrid as a loan car last year, it went like stink if you booted it and purred along in traffic in electric mode. However, this £23000 model I had only returned just over 55mpg.... the same as my £14000 Skoda diesel without electric motor. I did like the CVT gearbox it had though.

Re: Big Pugs
A better comparison would have been the Carrera GT. The 918 is a first generation hybrid supercar and the costs to access this combination of performance and economy will decrease as the tech spreads down the market.
The Toyotas don't do too well they use the petrol all the time, boosted by the batteries when necessary. This is why the Ampera is big news because the petrol engine only runs to recharge the electric motor's batteries. The Ampera on long term test by Auto Express has returned 88mpg over 7,500miles. The mpg figure is improving as the effects of a 1,500mile run wear off from the average. Yes, it is still expensive compared to an equivalent Astra at £30k, but the gap is closing.

Re: Big Pugs
Changing the subject back to actual larger Peugeot scooters.
Just browsed the Austrian Peugeot owner's forum and they point out that someone has just won a Satelis 300 on the Cologne Intermot show facebook page.
Nothing too remarkable there, other than no one recalls Peugeot issuing any specific launch news about the scoot, such as price or date when it is available. And yet someone will be collecting their prize bike during the show in 2 weeks time...

Re: Big Pugs
To be fair to Peugeot themselves they have been quietly busy and the Cologne show should see a bunch of new models. It'll be interesting to find out whether their own 400cc engine is any good. And indeed whether their plans include a 61hp Satelis hybrid.
Can't wait for the day to dawn when Peugeot realise that 3X don't give a damn about Pugs and get shot of 'em. You can tell that Peugeot don't really know what's going on as the main Peugeot website has a UK page with pictures of the Satelis plastered all over it.

Re: Big Pugs - Metropolis official launch
Right, here we are then, the official launch of the Metropolis, Pug's own MP3. And like Mottza said, it's at least a better looker.
Significantly, no mention of ABS. I wonder if it was too costly to engineer?

Peugeot unveils the three-wheeled scooter Metropolis 400i 2013
It is now official, Peugeot will have a three-wheeled scooter in its range for 2013: Metropolis 400i. Released in its final version, the Mondial de l'Automobile, the three-wheeled car has a style and the most enticing array of amenities to shake the competition.
In her white dress, more elegant than the matte gray / orange concept, Metroplis 2013 400i has elegant lines
In addition to its motor 400 cm3 stamped Peugeot and TTW (Tilting Twin wheels), based on a deformable parallelogram double wishbone (associated with two mixers connected by a single horizontal hydraulic damper), Metropolis 400i 2013 has a flat floor and is already making a difference at the level of equipment as standard. Unlike Piaggio MP3 LT, as it offers adjustable driver space, retractable footrests for passenger, a lockable glove box and storage annex on the left side, a manually adjustable windscreen and a trip computer with a tyre pressure indicator on the digital dashboard. Braking side, the three-wheel linked brake lever is also available at the left, in addition to the pedal to the floor disposed. Metropolis 400i also has a electric parking brake, and as the three-wheeled Italian bestseller French market, an electronic locking of tilt at low speed, in order to park anywhere but especially to avoid put ashore at any stop.

Available in spring 2013
Another innovation in the segment two and three wheels, the 400i is started via Metropolis Smart Key Peugeot, thereby offering to dispense switch and lock. Operator side, only the new Peugeot 400 cm3 block injection is available. He develops a power of 35 hp, which is quite comparable to the power of three wheels transalpine 400 cm3, but the Peugeot shows naturally less swift than the MP3 500 LT (also available on B permit). Metroplis disembark the concession next spring, "market price" says the manufacturer.
Main technical characteristics:
399 cm3 cylinder, SOHC, 4-valve
Maximum power: 35 hp. (25.6 kW) at 7000 r / min
Torque: 3.8 daN.m to 5250 rev / min
Tilt Train AV TTW deformable parallelogram double wishbone + horizontal hydraulic monoshock with adjustable preload
2 shock rear adjustable preload
Brakes Front 200 mm disc 2
Rear brake 240 mm disc 1
Front tire 120/70 x 12
Rear tire 140/70 x 14
Dimensions (L x W): 2160 x 745 mm
Seat height 780 mm
Wheelbase 1555 mm
Curb Weight 258 kg
13 liters tank

Standard equipment:
Adjustable driver backrest
PNR (???)
Retractable passenger footrests
Space for 1 full + 1 half jet helmet-type screen
Lockable glove box
Storage cubby
curry hook
Manually adjustable windscreen
Smart Key Dongle
On Board computer
Tyre pressure indicator
Integral brake lever to the left and the brake pedal
Electric parking brake
Tilt lock
Backlit control of warning
Seat cover
12V
Anti-theft transponder
Centrestand
