These: http://www.getgeared.co.uk/HELD_2272_No ... tegory=148

They are chunky mitts so not the best user friendly ones on a bike let alone inside an italian design muff :D
I only had one ride with the muffs and gloves so far coming back from work today, and i didn't struggle with the brakes at all, because the brake lever is fully reachable inside the muff.

There is enough room inside because the muffs come with a plastic spacer which is a bitch to install but once done it expands the front part creating a wide space which also keeps the muff from pressing on the brake pedal.

I have a wide variety of other muffs (including the other sort of Tucano muffs), but Tucano are the best. The ones I couldn't get on with were the Oxford ones - every time I reached for the indicator they pulled the brake on! The snag with muffs usually isn't reaching the brake (as long as they are secured properly), but reaching the minor controls.
I also have the oxford sports muffs but i dont like them at all, they always get twisted out of shape whenever i turn the handlebars to the sides, the strap is not long enough to wrap around the handlebar and they let in a lot of breeze in because i cant button them up due to strap not being long enough!

Tucano was very comfy and warm, the only issue is getting thick gloves in and out of it whenever i needed to adjust my visor, because their opening is quite tiny.

As you said, minor controls is another thing with these because they are outside the muffs and you need to reach them through the neoprene thumb area. The issue i had today, which i am hoping that will get better as i get used to the muffs, was the indicators. Especially the right indicator.

There is a round plastic bit in the muff that keeps the breeze out and also secures the muff into place, and that plastic bit sits really close to the indicator buttons. Turning left is not an issue because i was easily able to extend and pull the indicator button towards left, but turning right, you sort of need to get between that plastic ring and the indicator button to push it towards right, which was tricky.

As i said though, it might take a while to get used to, and for the comfort factor of having warm hands, i wouldnt mind a bit of annoyance anyway. Who indicates these days in london eh?

The best thing for me with these, aside from their good looks, is the fact that you can actually turn the handlebars from lock to lock without them touching anywhere, therefore not getting them twisted and needing adjustment.

Once i install the tall givi screen though, i think they will touch the screen on absolute full lock, which is quite rare anyway. I only need full lock when moving in between vehicles in weird angles and that doesnt happen all the time...

So these don't cover the switch housings then? And I thought the plastic ring on the outside was to fit behind the barend to secure the muffs to the bars?

Nope, it doesnt cover the switches. You access the stuff like lights, indicators, horn through the thumb area but the material is flexible and soft enough to enable that. The hole that the handle goes through is wide so to insulate the inside of the muff better, they provide a cloth ring that goes through the inside, and to secure the muff in place, a hard plastic two piece ring goes in after the cloth one. The two piece ring is held and tightened together with supplied cable ties. The issue i had with reaching the indicators was due to this hard plastic ring, because i installed it to the very end of the handle, as close to the indicators as possible, reaching over it to push the indicator button towards right was not that easy. I'll see if it improves over time, but i may end up taking the securing ring out altogether.

I bought the model that is for the bikes with bar ends on the handlebars, so the muffs are secured from the bar ends anyway. Inner ring with cable ties is a secondary measure to tighten it up further, also acts as a thief deterrent.

Yeah..I'm using some Tech7 cheapy muffs on the Tmax - they are good, but the left one does get caught on the dashboard at full left lock. And of course, sometimes fowling can happen at full lock, which is a hassle cos the brake lever gets pushed on, meaning you can't manhandle the scoot!
The other snag was that on the mk1 & 2 Tmax, the hand wind deflectors interfered with the Tucano muffs, so I had to take the deflectors off in winter. On the mk3, its not so much of a problem (the deflectors aren't great anyway), but since they are glued on, taking them off isn't an option!!

Liam . Most of the muffs are just large bags really, usually lined, as mine are,but you can wear your normal riding gloves. The main purpose of them is to stop the wind reaching your hands. :) I don't understand about reaching the switches, i have no problems at all, as stated they are basically a large bag. All the switches and leavers are inside the muffs. You don't need to look at them as you know where they are. Mine are held in place by two velcro pads and a length of cord that fastens across the top. I used muffs for years in winter when i commuted to work this was from the 1970s up to '95.

My screen arrived today, unfortunately the seller didnt have the plastic washers or screws required for it. Can anyone give me tips on where i can buy a variety of plastic washers, cylindirical spacers and screws from? I'm trying to plan ahead for this weekend when i'll attempt to fit the new screen on, and i dont want to be going back and forth the shops searching for washers. We dont have much sunshine in these winter days, so i'm trying to limit my risks.

I'll have a dig around in the shed, i might even have some in there but just wanted to check with you lot...

I'm not sure if there's a screwfix nearby but there definitely is maplin near me. The problem is i dont want to go and buy a huge stock of washers and bolts and pay stupid maplin prices for the sake of a couple of needed items...

The rubber screw thingies are "well nuts" and are pennies in the likes of Screwfix compared to the £10 a time charged by Suzuki dealers! I managed to reuse most of mine from the standard screen. From memory they are m5 or m6 size, but there are two longer than the others.I took them in as samples. There's a handy video on Youtube showing how to fit a screen.
I wake up every morning with a smile upon my face,
My natural exuberance spills out all over the place!

Many thanks Meldrew . I'll try to find the kit instructions somewhere online and take a peek.

Whatsisname, thanks also for naming the weird rubber thingies. However, they are not the ones i'm after. If you look here:

The first minute shows that burgman already comes with those rubber well nuts. What i need is the two "spacers" at 00:50 and the long bolt you can see there right next to them. Finding a suitable bolt is not that big of a problem, but the spacers look like they have to be just right for the holes on the screen.

If you look on the same video between 5:30 - 6:00 minute mark, you'll see what i mean. They make the space narrower on the screen for the bolt to go through snugly.

I suppose i can live without those as long as the bolt securely latches to the well nuts on the bike, but not having those spacers might mean more vibration and/or noise due to slackness...

Any idea what they might be called? I'll google around for a 266DT instruction manual now...

AHA! Found it :)

http://old.itlcanada.com/internal2/inst ... d266dt.pdf

Looking at the schematics, i will need items 4, 5 and 6

From there, i can easily get a hold of 4 and 5 which are 30mm M5 screws and 18mm washers.

Item 6 is the mystery item, which i thought to be nothing more than simple washers looking at the youtube video, but the instruction manual shows them as spacers, and in a cylindrical shape. I suppose they tried to show that they are meant to fit into the hole rather than on top of it, that's why they drew that figure on the instructions.

They read: 4mm spacer

If i print these instructions off and go to a screwfix branch, do you reckon they would know what i'm after by looking at these?
